AUSTRALIAN MP complains, “Immigrants stink!”

Teresa Gambaro, a conservative MP who speaks about citizenship issues for the opposition, sparked a public backlash for suggesting that immigrants (mostly Muslims) coming to Australia should be instructed on the use of deodorant. Daily bathing would be nice, too…and not just their feet.
(Here’s a scenario: As a boatload of Muslim invaders from Afghanistan or Iraq are being pulled from the water, or transferred from their leaky tubs onto sturdy naval vessels, would-be immigrants are handed a “Welcome To Australia kit”, containing soap, a large can of spray-on deodorant, and instructions on taking full-body showers)
UK TELEGRAPH Wearing deodorant and standing patiently in queues without pushing in were some of the issues she nominated as important.
“Without trying to be offensive we are talking about hygiene and what is an acceptable norm in this country when you are working closely with other co-workers,” Ms Gambaro told The Australian newspaper.
“Sometimes these things are not talked about because people find them offensive but if people are having difficulty getting a job, for instance, it may relate to their appearance and these things need to be taken into account.”

he remarks were dismissed as “bizarre and silly” by Immigration Minister Chris Bowen who said they “could have been expected in 1952 not in 2012″, and Attorney General Nicola Roxon accused Gambaro of being “patronising”.
“It’s also showing a lack of awareness that this is a two-way street, when you talk about cultural understanding … launching these sorts of trivial salvos into the community,” Roxon said.
But Ms Gambaro said hygiene was “just one small part” of the proposed cultural awareness training she had been referring to, which would also cover issues like tenancy, consumer rights and immunisation.
She later issued a statement saying she regretted “any offence that may have been taken and unreservedly apologise.”

The government’s Australian Multicultural Council said most people arriving on working visas were professionals in skilled occupations and called for some “awareness training” for the nation’s politicians.
Pino Migliorino, head of the Federation of Ethnic Communities Councils, said the comments would make Australia “look like a joke” abroad and condemned Ms Gambaro, who is of Italian heritage, for her stance. ”This is no longer the 1960s, temporary migrants are people coming from a university background. To say ‘you smell’ is ridiculous,” he said.
She must have sniffed her hand after greeting them…

I live in Sydney and here it is common for buses to replace trains on the weekends
when track work is taking place.
Afew weeks ago, I found myself in a situation where I had to travel on a packed bus full of muslims. The only non muslims were myself and an Aussie couple. We just kept looking at each other unable to believe
that this is Australia in the year 2011.
Apart from the fact that yes, they do stink, they are also loud and obnoxious.I felt scared and angry that our government allows these wildass people into civilised society.
Imagine yourself on that boat travelling with all of them and you may just understand what I was feeling that day.

Wow Chloe, That had to be most unpleasant. The closest thing similar that I experienced was in the fall of 2005, when I as a National Guard soldier deployed to Egypt for Operation Bright Star, one of the world’s largest multi-national coalition excersises. After landing at Egypt’s Geneclies Air Force Base, we boarded dirty/smelly charter buses for our final destination, MMC. Unlike your situation, the bus I was on only had one Egyptian on board, the driver. All the rest were soldiers and……cockroaches! Yes, the whole bus was infested with them, thousands of them! It must have been the longest two hour trip I ever made. I had never seen a bug infested bus before until I went to that smelly, dirty and filthy country.
Now what really sucks about this is how our politicians are letting more and more of these scum into our countries, and in the process, they are turning us into third world nations.

To say “You smell” is not ridiculous. If they stink, they stink! I have been in crowded elevators before, and let’s just say….Phew!
All due respect, but these immigrants absolutely stink. Their body odour is very offensive and burns the eyes and nose. This is the truth, it makes you sick when they stand next to you in line at the mall, and smell like stale sweat.
The women try to mask the smell by using some perfume but the smell reeks.
What this politician said is what 99% of people here in Australia think, but the P.C. brigade, as always has the final say.
Is it to much to ask an immigrant to follow basic hygiene rules, so as not to offend us?
I recently told a teenage boy at the check out that he should use deodorant, if he was not Caucasian I wouldn’t have said it. That’s the problem I guess, one rule for us another for them, to our detriment!

I have asthma, and around some of these Muslims (especially Somalis) I can feel my chest literally start tightening up due to the god awful stench, that they make worse by wearing some perfume that stinks like rotten meat. At uni in the library, when one of them sits down on the other side of a carrel I have to move away to keep from vomiting.

I bet the Aussies are finding filthy footprints on their public toilet seats, too. The concept of a western toilet must take a while to get used to for these newcomers.

On the FOB’s in Iraq, you could always tell when the local nationals were using the porta-johns by the footprints they leave when they squat to drop a deuce. You could also tell by seeing empty to partially empty water bottles in the porta-johns, even when stocked with plenty of toilet paper. They even squat when just pee. How weird huh?

My son plays basketball, I know instantly when the Somali kids are playing, the whole stadium stinks! I have told management because I physically cant sit there and watch my son play. In groups they are very intimidating, they take over the hoops and nobody else can practice. I doubt anything will be done – even though I am a paying member, whereas they get membership for free! When are the claims going to start for racism/discrimination against caucasians!!!??
