FLYING PIGS MOMENT: Mayor Bloomberg defends NYPD surveillance of Muslims
Posted: February 22, 2012 Filed under: Jihad this! 32 Comments »We have witnessed Bloomberg’s pigheaded support for the Ground Zero Victory Mosque, his Muslim Ramadan dinners, and his non-interference when Muslim asslifters block off entire streets to pray. So when he backs NYPD Chief Ray Kelly’s counter-terrorism efforts, despite the blowback from Muslims, he is to be applauded.
Well, as they say, even a broken clock is right twice a day.
Village Voice Reporters repeatedly grilled Mayor Mike Bloomberg this morning about recent reports of the New York Police Department’s surveillance of Muslim student groups at campuses throughout the Northeast.
Bloomberg shot back at them that the NYPD policies are there to protect freedoms such as the free press. “You are not going to survive. You will not be able to be a journalist and write what you want to say if the people who want to take away your freedoms are allowed to succeed,” Bloomberg said after one reporter pressed him on the matter.
This latest controversy escalated with reports from the Associated Press that the police department has regularly monitored websitesrun by Muslim student groups at 16 colleges, including Columbia and New York University.
Yale University President Richard Levin came out today criticizing the surveillance practices, calling them “antithetical to the values” of Yale and the country — the subject of the first off-topic question thrown at Bloomberg at a press conference this morning in Brooklyn about job-creation.
“I don’t know why keeping the country safe is antithetical to the values of Yale. Yale’s freedoms to do research, to teach, to give people a place to say what they want to say is defended by law enforcement throughout this country,” Bloomberg said. “If going on websites and looking for information is not what Yale stands for, I don’t know. It’s the freedom of information. If people put things on websites, presumably — and make them available to everybody…it’s ridiculous it seems to me to argue that they’re not available to everybody.”
In line with the defense that the NYPD has offered in light of the recent reports, Bloomberg also reminded reporters that a dozen people have been convicted through this kind of monitoring.
A second reporter asked Bloomberg to respond to the allegation that authorities even sent an undercover agent on a whitewater rafting trip where the agent recorded students’ names and kept a record of how many times the students prayed.
“No,” he said, pausing again. “We have to keep this country safe. This is a dangerous place. Make no mistake about it. It’s very cute to go and to blame everybody and say we should stay away from…[policies like] intelligence gathering. The job of our law enforcement is to make sure that they prevent things and you only do that by being proactive. You have to respect people’s right to privacy. You have to obey the law, and I think that police officers across this country…do that.”
Finally, in the last question of the news conference, another reporter asked him to respond to complaints from the Muslim community that they are being surveilled more than others. “I don’t know how anybody would know that,” Bloomberg said.
He ended with one more line about free press: “Remind yourself when you turn off the light tonight, you have your job because there are young men and women who have been giving their lives overseas for the last 200 plus years so that we would have freedom of the press. And we go after the terrorists. We are going to continue to do that and the same thing is true for the people that work on the streets of our cities.”
After the conference, Runnin’ Scared called Cyrus McGoldrick, civil rights manager for Council of American-Islamic Relations in New York, to hear his response to Bloomberg’s latest defense of the policy. ”We know very well that, despite the NYPD’s best effort to deny it, this was not about following leads — this was about religious, ethnic profiling,” he told us.
When Runnin’ Scared asked him about Bloomberg mentioning free press in his defense, McGoldrick said, “That’s laughable. I would expect better from him…(Oh, how quickly they turn)
The idea that to protect freedom of press we need to then give up freedom of…religion, it doesn’t follow. It’s not logical.” Public safety is important, but law enforcement should not devote its limited resources to blanket monitoring of these students, he said. “We are looking at the use of fear to justify the devastation and destruction of our constitutional rights.”

while bloomberg has cops chasing the small fry, the big fish run amok with his help.
stopping some lone bombers is good, but stopping those that fund worldwide jihad, promote worldwide jihad, teach hatred, build and staff mega mosques all over the planet, is better.
sharia compliant financing, staffing govt at all levels with muslim brotherhood operatives, out of control immigration, and the addiction to political correctness, are far more life threatening.
a violent felon may rob some banks and get some money, but the federal reserve is stealing trillions from us.
liz, but that is not the job of the NYPD. It’s not even the job of Bloomberg, it is the job of the Feds who aren’t doing anything, on order of the Muslim in chief.
Umm wow!
Alright, who is this guy and what has he done with dhimmi Mayor Bloomberg?
CWW, dhimmi is still there, but he knows enough not to mess with the people who have made his city one of the safest in the world.
Will wonders never cease! But thank God little Bloomie has had the guts to defend Ray Kelly – a real thorn (and thank God for that!) in the side of CAIR & ME muzzies and their student “running dogs” (h/t to Mao)!!
Bloomberg finally woke up and is starting to smell the coffee. He’s getting sick and tired of the BS that is hemorrhaging from every orifice of every muslim of every islamist organization, along with undoubtedly countless hostile threats from same, added to the piles upon piles on his desk of surveillance data, from local and else-/everywhere documenting very real deadly threats to national security. And it’s ALL from those who would have you believe is the religion of peace. Yep, the writing is on the wall, and Bloomy is finally comprehending that islam in our midst equates to war. Will he come right out and say that? No, not yet. But, he knows in his heart what the truth is, and the time is drawing near when he’ll have to stand with the millions of knowing Americans against islam.
Has anyone else seen coverage of this:
http://www.jihadwatch.org/2012/02/muslim-screaming-allah-is-great-arrested-after-causing-disturbance-tackled-by-other-passengers-on-co.html
I didn’t see any mention of this on any news show yesterday. And the only stories about it I’ve been able to find that were not on other blogs are these:
http://www.nwcn.com/home/139938313.html
http://www.oregonlive.com/portland/index.ssf/2012/02/flight_departing_portland_inte.html
And as you can see there is no mention of Middle Eastern men or Allahoohah is Great. And we are supposed to believe that censorship is not being imposed, even if it’s “only” self-censorship?
Oh, and then there’s the tiny, insignificant issue of our embassy in Kabul being in lockdown due to raghead riots over fried Krayons.
http://www.foxnews.com/world/2012/02/22/anti-american-protests-continue-in-afghan-cities-over-koran-burning-incident/#ixzz1n649Yi61
Don’t know why Bloomberg suddenly had an attack of common sense and resolve. Hope it continues. Won’t be surprised if he’s already been pistolwhipped by his raghead friends and we can expect an abject apology soon.
Takiya. Be careful, El-Boomberg has a trick up his sleeve.
Bloomberg’s concerns about freedom of speech and press are becoming more solidly founded every day, as Ed Cline points out in this essay on the blog Rule of Reason:
http://ruleofreason.blogspot.com/2012/02/oic-workshops-speech-crime.html
RRA, great link-thnaks.
Bloomberg saw the recent polls overwhelmingly in support of the NYPD’s surveillance efforts. Nuff said. Great job, thank you NYPD for being their. Good morning Dougie.
YEAH!! “Stop the profiling” so they can do their sinful, ungodly terrorist planning in secret !! If they don’t like being monitored, go bank to their native lands to finis destroying it.
““You are not going to survive. You will not be able to be a journalist and write what you want to say if the people who want to take away your freedoms are allowed to succeed,”
Tell me, Bloomberg, does this apply to the Second Amendment? The one Amendment that protects all the others.
Bloomberg is dog-S&^t. Liar to the core. He selectively protects some rights and not others. That is the effective definition of tyranny: The selective and arbitrary enforcemnt of laws.
KS, if you have been following this blog, you know that virtually every story posted here about Bloomberg has condemned his anti-American, pro-muslim policies. When he does something right, for whatever reason, I will post that too.
‘A community living in fear’.
Why are they living in fear if they have nothing to hide and are model citizens?
He’s lost that Burka feeling
:-)
Well that is a pleasant surprise. I guess CAIR didn’t completely neuter Bloomberg, yet.
He must know something we dont know….!
You’re right. Mayor Bloomburg should be praise for these comments. I just hope he’s begun to realize how wrong he has been to cow tow to these ideological idiots. And CAIR’s inflammatory statements are true to form. They only have themselves and their people’s anti-American actions to blame. Someone has to clean-up “their filthy house”. So far NYPD is doing a great job. They should be awarded for their efforts.
A spade is a spade……….I am sure he shall be brow beat by Obummer for his lack of PC.
But I do tip my hat to this guy….better late than never.
Can anyone find this story on a Mainstream news source as if I could get more crediblity showing this to people?
missy, here’s one from CNN: http://www.cnn.com/2012/02/21/us/new-york-muslim-surveillance/
Don’t expect to hear any denunciations of this:
http://www.foxnews.com/world/2012/02/22/iran-court-convicts-christian-pastor-convert-to-death/
from the Muslim-in-Chief. Or all those “moderate muslims” out in the heartland. Or Harvard University. Or Mayor Bloomberg (unless he really has finally woke up). Certainly not from any of the major church organizations. Or the Vatican. Or MSNBC. Or our esteemed Secretary of State. Or any of the same dhimmis, cowards, careerists, and OWS groupies who failed to protest the dragging back to Saudi Raghead Arabia of the Twitter Blasphemer with the full cooperation of Interpol, which is now in the business of assisting in religious persecution and violation of the human right of free expression.
Listen… all you’ll hear are the usual crickets.
I think he has found and started to read BNI’s blog scared the hell out of him and he ain’t taken his eyes off them muzzies is what I think.
BLR, I doubt it. His support for muslims is mainly monetary (his business dealings in the Middle East). But he also knows that throwing the NYPD under the bus would be bad for business in the U.S.
Joy, bloomberg is a gutless wonder. Backing chief Kelley has nothing to do with guts and everything to do with saving his chickenshit ass from the lynch mob. He knows he has his back to the wall and New Yorkers are NOT going to take anymore islamic bullshit from cair or any other jihadist terrorist group. The New York police are going to profile muslims and if they don’t like it, tough shit!
Amen brother, amen.
What the crap is wrong with New Yorker’s? They want to commit suicide?
Before you get all up in the air I was born in NY, Jamaica, Long Island.
I see this nitwit Bloomberg making a barrel of money on lives of Americans, being in cahoots with the Saudi Royal family.
Good lord take about conflict of interests. this man has to be removed from office. Sewer cleaning is to good for him.
What’s with a recall. This man is wqay over the limit on breaking his vows.
High crimes and misdemeanors is a phrase from Section 4 of Article Two of the United States Constitution: “The President, Vice President and all civil officers of the United States, shall be removed from office on impeachment for, and conviction of, treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors.”
“High” in the legal parlance of the 18th century means “against the State”. A high crime is one which seeks the overthrow of the country, which gives aid or comfort to its enemies, or which injures the country to the profit of an individual or group. In democracies and similar societies it also includes crimes which attempt to alter the outcome of elections.
Bloomberg has definitely gone over his quota!
is Bloomber up for re-election?
dragon, No, he’s already had 3 terms thanks to the liberals.
Makes me want to puke seeing Bloombutt sitting around with his pajama clan. What an idiot!!!
