A Muslim butcher was hacked to death yesterday by a crazed attacker wielding a machete. A second man was seriously injured and was in hospital last night. Unidentified 27-year-old suspect is in custody.
UK Independent (h/t Susan K) The attack took place at a halal butcher’s shop in Eastwood, Rotherham and the victim was identified locally as butcher and shopkeeper Parvaiz Iqbal, 41. He was slashed six times with the machete or a similar large-bladed weapon. Witnesses claim they saw a man holding a machete and running through Rotherham town centre covered in blood.
Local councillor Jahangir Akhtar said the Bismillah Food Store was well known in the area as it was once of the first to start selling halal meat in the 1980s. He said the dead man was in his early 40s and married with three children, with the eldest aged 16.
Mr Akhtar said he believed the alleged attacker had previously worked in the shop.
