People are beginning to recognize that the endless waves of unassimilable so-called refugees and unknown numbers of jihadists that the Islamic world is dumping on the West are a weapon of war. Turkey is using the threat of unleashing millions more Muslim freeloaders and economic opportunists in order to extort massive sums of money from Europe, as Czech President Miloš Zeman confirms.
In his remarks made at the end of his three-day visit to north Bohemia on Wednesday, Zeman reportedly criticized the EU’s recent offering to Turkey of 3 billion euros ($3.2 billion) in financial aid in exchange for keeping Syrian refugees on its soil.
“The Roman Empire, before it collapsed, too, paid tribute money to barbarians [for them not to pilfer its territory],” Zeman was quoted by the Czech news agency as saying.
Moonbattery (h/t Tater Salad) Zeman is right to compare this extorted tribute to those paid to the barbarians who went on to destroy Rome. A better comparison would be to the Barbary pirates. A young USA used to pay tribute to Muslims so that they would stop stealing our ships and enslaving the crews. Thomas Jefferson got fed up with it and sent in the Marines, as immortalized by the line “to the shores of Tripoli” in the Marine Corps Hymn.
If the liberal weenies running Europe had even a small fraction of Jefferson’s character, they would find that it is less expensive to defend their borders from hostile incursion through the use of armed force than it is to pay tribute to hostile thugs like Turkey’s Erdogan.
