A family park was hit by two brutal attacks in one day: A 31-year-old man was set upon by a group of men in Waltham Abbey Gardens on Saturday morning and was splashed with an unknown substance before being set alight. And another man was attacked with a hammer in the same park that evening.
The Sun (h/t Linda R) A MAN suffered serious burns when he was set on fire by a ‘Turkish-looking’ gang in the grounds of an historic abbey. The 31-year-old was doused in a flammable liquid by the group of men and then set alight in Waltham Abbey Gardens, Essex.
The victim, believed to be from the area, managed to make his way to a friend’s house, where an ambulance was called. He is now being treated for “serious burns” in hospital, said police.
Hertfordshire Mercury And a source told the Mercury another man was attacked with a hammer in the same park that evening. Essex Police confirmed an attack had been reported at around 7pm but attending officers had been unable to find the victim.
Detective inspector Jim Adams said: “This is a fast-moving investigation and the motive for this assault has not yet been established. “We are making extensive enquiries in the area to find out exactly where and why this assault happened. The suspects are described as being of Turkish appearance.”
