Armed police opened fire and shot an intruder inside the grounds of the Houses of Parliament today after a car skittled into pedestrians on Westminster Bridge, leaving at least 12 people splayed across the ground and 40 injured. Pedestrians and cyclists were hit by the 4×4 vehicle on the bridge before the man, said to have been Asian-looking (‘ASIAN’ = MUSLIM in British speak) and in his 40s, then smashed the car into railings outside Parliament. He jumped a gate and ran through into the front yard of the compound apparently waving a knife, before being shot by a police officer. House of Commons has been suspended.

Eyewitness Rick Longley described the attack. ‘We were just walking up to the station and there was a loud bang and a guy, someone, crashed a car and took some pedestrians out. ‘They were just laying there and then the whole crowd just surged around the corner by the gates just opposite Big Ben.
‘A guy came past my right shoulder with a big knife and just started plunging it into the policeman. ‘I have never seen anything like that. I just can’t believe what I just saw.’
Steve Voake, 55, was walking across the Westminster Bridge towards the South Bank when he saw the aftermath. He said he saw at least two bodies lying on the road and one in the water.
‘I saw a trainer lying in the road and when I looked more closely I saw that there were a couple of bodies the other side of the road,’ he told the Press Association. ‘And when I looked over the side there was another body lying in the water with blood all around it.’
Kiersten Hallow told MailOnline: ‘We’re literally opposite where the car plowed into the fencing.’ ‘I saw the car mounting the cycle lane and gone into the fencing and then the next thing I could see was a cyclist, I think, or some pedestrian laying down and there was a lot of steam coming out of the car and an awful lot of noise and shouting.’
Daily Mail political editor Jason Groves witnessed the incident from his office window. He said: ‘I heard a bang coming from Westminster Tube station, looked out the window, there’s a commotion, armed cops were running, the crowd of people outside were running as if for their lives.
A woman with “serious injuries” has been pulled from the River Thames after jumping from Westminster Bridge to escape the London Parliament “terrorist attack.” The woman is said to have jumped from Westminster Bride as a car ploughed into pedestrians.
‘A guy comes through the vehicle entrance wielding something, towards a copper, the copper tumbles. ‘The man’s running towards Westminster Hall, and then you’ve got a plain clothes copper comes running out. ‘Not from the gate, but from the inside, shoots him once from maybe 10 or 15 yards away with a handgun, and then gets closer to him and shoots him again from over him and he doesn’t get up’.
Mail journalist Quentin Letts saw the incident out of the window of a Commons office. He told MailOnline: ‘We heard this sound like a car crash… ‘Then we saw a thick set man in black clothes come through the gates where people would normally drive cars. ‘This man had something in his hand. It looked like a stick or a stave, it was quite long. He was challenged by two policemen in yellow jackets at the gates.
‘One of the policemen fell down. He seemed to be stabbed four or five times. ‘The other policeman got away and ran to get help.’
‘It was very, very quick to come. As this attacker was running toward the entrance used by MPs to go into the House of Commons, he made it about 15 yards. Then two plain clothes guys came out of Westminster Hall with guns. ‘They shouted at him, uttered what sounded like a warning. Then they shot two to three times and he fell.’
Journalists saw paramedic teams trying desperately to resuscitate the policeman on the floor for at least 20 minutes. However, the attempt seemed to be unsuccessful with a body covered by a sheet still on the ground in New Palace Yard.
‘He wasn’t moving very much, I thought I saw him moving. I don’t know if he was riding a bike and got hit. There was somebody with him and he was there with his hands on his head.
