Australians attending Gallipoli’s Anzac Day memorial drops from 10,000 to 700 over fears of a Muslim terrorist attack.
UK Daily Mail (h/t Sara S) Only 700 people will attend the commemoration on Tuesday, compared to 10,000 in years past, Australian War Memorial director Brendan Nelson says. Dr Nelson told 2GB radio he was disappointed in the outcome, despite the ‘real threats’ of terrorism. “So few people feel it’s safe enough to travel, I think is extraordinarily disappointing but that is the world we are living in,” he said.
Showing how ignorant about Islam Nelson actually is, he said: “I just don’t want to live in a world where these lunatics that have hijacked the name of Islam are going to stop us from exercising the freedom and rights so many people fought and died for. (They haven’t hijacked anything, they are following the teachings of Islam exactly as they are written in the quran)
