A MUSLIM diner, Naz Ali, says he felt “degraded” and “humiliated” after he was unknowingly served pulled pork on his side of chilli fries by staff at a Farmer John’s pub in Sutton Coldfield. Ali never told the waitress that he couldn’t eat pork.
The Sun Speaking with the Birmingham Mail, the 39-year-old truck driver admits he never asked staff what kind of meat was used in the dish and assumed it was chicken.
Mr Ali, who ordered a beef burger along with the side of fries, said he ate about a quarter of the dish before checking with the waitress. He says when he complained staff apologized and gave the children in his party free desserts. The pub’s management claim they also waived the entire bill after Mr Ali complained.
Ali claims he asked the waitress what kind of meat was in the fries only AFTER he had begun eating them. Says Ali, “when she came back and told me it was pork, I had food in my mouth and I spat it out and went to the toilet, where I was sick. I felt degraded.”
“For religious purposes I don’t eat pork and restaurants should be aware of what people of different religions can and can’t eat. It was a shambles.” A spokesman for Marston’s Brewery, who owns the pub, said: “We are sorry for Mr Ali’s experience, we have apologised and all costs for his table were waived on the day.”
