Nathan, 17, and his family will soon be moving out of the district of Cheratte-bas in Belgium where they have lived for more than 15 years. The reason: verbal and physical attacks by Muslims of which the young man was a victim.
Islam vs Europe Nathan, 17, was walking with his girlfriend in his home district of Cheratte-bas (Visé municipality), the district where he grew up, where he played, where he has his friends. But when he crosses the path of Husein, a young Muslim gang leader from the district, the insults ring out – “Filthy Belgian, “filthy white”.
Huseyn then tells them that they’re not in Belgium, but in Turkey. Then the blows come repeatedy, sending Nathan to the hosptal with severe pains in his head.
“This time, I decided not to let it go,” explains his exasperated mother. “It’s not the first time that Muslim youths from the district have attacked him. Insults are common. But this time, it went too far.”
For this reason she has filed a complaint about racism and xenophobia towards her son, with the support of the NGO Progressive Muslims of Belgium. An association which decided to initiate the “standard” procedure when the facts were reported to it. “Because we are against all forms of racism, even those that come from populations of foreign origin,” says Fouad Benyekhlef.
