The as yet unidentified Muslim who killed a police officer on the Champs-Elysees was known to French security services for radical Islamist activities and had shot and wounded an officer in the past.

National Post One officer was killed and two police officers were seriously wounded when the attacker emerged from a car and used an automatic weapon to shoot at officers outside a Marks & Spencer’s department store at the centre of the Champs-Elysees, anti-terrorism prosecutor Francois Molins said. A female foreign tourist also was wounded.
A gunman opened fire on police on Paris’ iconic Champs-Elysees boulevard Thursday night, killing one officer and wounding three people before police shot and killed him. The Islamic State group quickly claimed responsibility for the attack, which hit just three days before a tense presidential election.
Security already has been a dominant theme in the campaign, and the violence on the sparkling avenue threatened to weigh on voters’ decisions. Candidates cancelled or rescheduled final campaign events ahead of Sunday’s first round vote.
Investigators searched a home early Friday in an eastern suburb of Paris believed linked to the attack. A police document obtained by The Associated Press identifies the address searched in the town of Chelles as the family home of Karim Cheurfi, a 39-year-old with a criminal record.
Police tape surrounded the quiet, middle-class neighbourhood in Chelles, and worried neighbours expressed surprise at the searches. Archive reports by French newspaper Le Parisien say that Cheurfi was convicted of attacking a police officer in 2001.
The Islamic State group’s claim of responsibility just a few hours after the attack came unusually swiftly for the extremist group.
In a statement from its Amaq news agency, the group gave a pseudonym for the shooter, Abu Yusuf al-Beljiki, indicating he was Belgian or had lived in Belgium. Belgian authorities said they had no information about the suspect. IS described the shootings as an attack “in the heart of Paris.”
The attacker had been flagged as an extremist (DUH!) , according to two police officials, speaking on condition of anonymity because they weren’t authorized to publicly discuss the investigation.
Brandet said officers were “deliberately” targeted, as has happened repeatedly to French security forces in recent years, including in the run-up to the 2012 election.
Like the USA had.
France has one more chance (maybe their last chance), to get it right.
The future of the next generation and their country is at stake.
Well, it seem like France needs to be saved by us once again! These dhimmis are under a state of emergency for the past couple of years, and have immense powers to handle the vermin threat they are under. Yet they are unable to take care of violent attacks like these that have become only too frequent! Simply can’t believe this Shite coming from France!
From what I’ve been reading this morning (4/21), this vermin had been sentenced to twenty years in prison for a previous, recent police shooting. But, of course, he was out. F*cking self-loathing French …
This delusional elitist dhimmified libtard is what the French are expected to elect instead of Marine? How many more years of this will it take? Or do they simply intend to “learn to live with terrorism” like the “cheese-eating surrender Monkeys” they’re called?

How many more mutilated dead bodies are the French willing to offer up to Islam before they regain their national pride and take back their country from this pestilence?
This may sound awful, but I almost hope France is swamped with terrorism up to the election. Maybe that will make the French open their eyes & vote Le Pen.
The French have bat guano for brains. Secular republic means they can suspend the constitution, declare martial law and round up all islamists without consulting Brussels EU. Are they that afraid of UNHCR and EU disapproval ?
One less sewer dweller.
lets see.. the attacker is an “extremist” that claimed from islamic state and since islamic state have nothing to do islam this guy must be a christian or a jew or a hindu extremist, right!? but he a muslim you said? oh well that mean he must be christian/jewish/hindu extremist that also a muslim but has nothing to do with islam, that sound about right ,yup!
Now they will dust off the old candles and flowers and organize a vigil to fight the Muslim terrorism with “tolerance and compassion”, as our village idiot Justin Trudeau likes to say. It is sad, last year, we visited Paris approximately the same time of the year. The day after we arrived, terrorists attacked the Brussels airport. A few days later, we walked Champs-Elysees from the Arc de Triomphe and probably passed the spot where today’s attack happened. France is going down the drains and I am not sure, if even Marine le Pen could make a difference.
BW, yes, I expect to see the flower, candle, and teddy bear vigils by tomorrow.
So true! A couple weeks ago someone posted a list of mandatory stuff like candles, teddy bears etc., that need to be displayed after each terrorist attack, as well as show solidarity with the very community of the people who are going to carry out the next attack. Wish I had saved that post!
So much for France’s strict gun control. I wonder, if and when the weapon is recovered, if it will be traced back to Eric Holder – the King of Fast & Furious.
And I was so sure it was going to be one of those violent Buddhist.
This is really the new norm – get use to it.
I so wanted to travel Europe. Visit the Louvre, Eiffel Tower, Buckingham Palace, etc. Won’t do it now. If just Joel and myself, maybe, but not with Merrilyn. Europe is such a mess that even its own citizens aren’t safe.
Funny, visiting Israel last year I felt perfectly safe. The security there did all to insure safety. There have been some attacks there, but I felt they were the types that we could handle and that our well being was guarded. I don’t see that in Europe. It’s as if tourists there are expendable, all in the name to protect their support of moslem monsters. They don’t even care about their own citizens. Why should they care about American visitors? Will definitely return to Israel. Definitely NOT planning a European excursion. Next stop, New York City!!!
Emma, and now, reportedly ISIS and al-Qaeda are planning to join forces. Not a surprise since the leader of ISIS came out of al-Qaeda.
More people have been killed in NYC by terrorist attacks than Paris. Fruit for thought. FWIW was in Paris last September. No problems whatsoever. Had a great time. You let the terrorists win by being scared.
Thanks for your input, Justin.
No you keep your family safe by being scared.
“The as yet unidentified Muslim who killed a police officer on the Champs-Elysees ***was known to French security services*** for radical Islamist activities
Always the same thing…, why don’t you deport/strip citizenship, better yet, ban muslims INDEFINITELY until we know what the heck is going on? Oh, we know exactly what’s going on. For how long they will call this crafty articulated invasion as “migrant crisis”???
Until we have every western city landmark getting famous for being another massacre site?
damn, i`ve run out of vigil candles
Marie harf still having that job fair?
If they don’t elect marinelepence (sic) they deserve what lays ahead
I guess so. She now has a job at FOX news.
Once again, they do not know the motive. Well, a Muslim is killing non-Muslims on purpose. What could be the motive?
The only reason they are reporting this particular incident is because it occurred in a high-tourist area.
Many terrible incidents in France every day and reported only locally,
First-round of election in two days.
Susan, though very sad that the officer had to die, this attack couldn’t have come at a better time.
France should take possession of the home and put it up for sale. Next deport the rest of the family.
This is what happens when you bring in the Trojan horse. The people need to drag the officials out of their homes and whip them in the town square.
The entire caption contradicts itself.
The as yet unidentified Muslim who killed a police officer on the Champs-Elysees was known to French security services for radical Islamist activities and had shot and wounded an officer in the past.
How can he both be known to French security services but also be unidentified?
I meant unidentified to the public.
So fighting Islime with love didn’t work? That’s weird I thought that would work for sure. Wtf
They shot the SOB dead at least thats a start
