Australia’s latest new Prime Minister, Scott Morrison, was a national hero as Minister of Immigration and Border Protection under former Prime Minister Tony Abbott. However now, in a huge reversal, Morrison has struck a deal with Indonesia – the world’s largest Muslim country – which will include a “freedom to move” component – opening the floodgates to thousands more Indonesian Muslims every year.
So recently, when he replaced ousted Malcolm Turnbull as his party’s Prime Minister, I rejoiced. But as several Aussie BNI readers warned me, Morrison is not the immigration hardliner he used to be.
In 2013 he began the “Sovereign Frontiers” operation. Muslim illegal migrant smuggler boats were routinely turned back to sea and Muslim asylum-seekers taken to remote Pacific detention centres on the Manus Islands in Papua New Guinea and Nauru, where they remained indefinitely until they could be sent back or pawned off on other nations.
And in a sign that the government meant business it tasked the Australian Navy with patrolling Australia’s coastline. The result? Muslim migrant wannabe fake asylum seeker boat arrivals in Australia were cut to virtually zero.
SBS News Australia’s conservative lawmakers chose one of their own, Scott Morrison, to become the country’s newest prime minister on Friday, after a vote that capped days of chaos in the capital and underscored the turbulence of the country’s politics.
Morrison said, when he was Immigration Minister, “As minister for Immigration and Border Protection, it was my policy and practice to put Australia’s national security interests first by stopping the boats.”
AU News Apparently, he has changed his mind, The image many Australians have of him — the hard-nosed, uncompromising and suit-clad gatekeeper of our borders and detention camps, then the holder of the nation’s purse strings — is out. Instead, this is the kind of clothing he now wears.
In its place are comfy caps and polo shirts, talk about meat pies, photo opportunities with his wife and kids, and the repeated use of phrases such as “fair dinkum”.
In his first international speech, the new Australian Prime Minister, Scott Morrison, told his Indonesian audience that a final free-trade-agreement with Australia will be reached by the upcoming Christmas.
PamelaGeller( h/t Marvin W) The Prime Minister described it as a “landmark deal” that goes far beyond any historic trade agreement. This deal will include a “freedom to move” component which will give thousands of Indonesians access to enter Australia.
Indonesia is the largest Muslim country and is home to more Jihadis than anywhere else in the world. Shariah Law is widely practiced in Indonesia and its barbaric punishments are commonly implemented. This comes only months after a Malaysian woman entered Australia on a tourist visa to carry out a jihadi attack.
