Democrats have proposed changing a long-standing rule banning House members from wearing hats on the chamber floor, in order to accommodate the first Somali Muslim woman, Ilhan Omar, elected to Congress — who insists on wearing what can only be described as a misogynistic, Islamic supremacist head covering.
DID YOU KNOW? A Democrat lawmaker suffering from cancer had to remove her hat and vote with a bald head, but when it comes to an anti-Israel Somali Muslim supremacist—apparently, all bets are off.
Washington Post House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), Rules Committee ranking Democrat Rep. Jim McGovern (Mass.) and congresswoman-elect Somali Muslim Ilhan Omar of Minnesota are the co-authors of the proposal, which was included as part of a slate of rule changes that Democrats will seek to implement once they assume control of the House next year.
Omar, who was born in Somalia but came to the United States as a migrant wears an Islamic supremacist headscarf — something that could fall afoul of the 181-year-old House rule banning members from wearing any kind of hat on the floor.
Democrats are proposing changing the rule to allow Muslim religious headwear into the House chamber, though it is unclear whether members of other faiths would take advantage of it.
The proposed change, which House Democrats say is to promote diversity and ensure that the freedom of religious expression is protected on Capitol Hill, effectively doubles as a rebuke of the anti-Muslim rhetoric voiced by Republican candidates in several 2018 midterm races. It also is notable for coming at a time when several U.S. allies in Europe are adopting countrywide bans on face veils.
During her campaign to win outgoing Rep. Keith Ellison’s (D., Minn.) House seat, Democrat Somali Muslim Ilhan Omar needed to fight off accusations that she held anti-Israel views. As part of that effort, Ilhan Omar told Minnesota voters, or more to the point, Minnesota’s Jewish community, that she OPPOSED The Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions movement (BDS).
Ironically, Ilhan Omar was labeled by the media as “Brave and Courageous,” because her stated views went against most Muslims beliefs about Israel, and their right to exist. But less than a week after the election had been won, Ilhan Omar is now singing a very different tune about Israel.
In an interview published last Sunday by “MuslimGirl,” Democrat Ilhan Omar confessed that she lied because despite assuring Minnesota’s Jewish leaders that she opposed BDS, she is now saying that she wholeheartedly “supports the BDS movement.”
