The victim, John Dowling, 66 (below), originally from Ireland, had been on the ‘verge of retirement’ when he was attacked on his way to lunch by a 37-year-old Pakistani Muslim national ‘who was angry about exam results and his expulsion from the university.’
Irish Mirror (h/t Maurice) The police said that the dead man was teaching English and his attacker was “The scene is at Leonardo De Vinci Private University – the victim was stabbed many times. The fatal cut was to his throat – he died at the scene.
“Police officers have arrested the suspect who was near the location – and they have found the knife also.” It emerged that the Muslim attacker was in dispute with the college because he was thrown out of the school after failing a year.
He began studying at the college in 2016 but lasted just one year and left in 2017 – according to French police. A source added: “The victim, is Irish, but has been living and working in Paris for 20 years. He is very popular in the college and very well known.”
The university had not been aware of any ‘particular threat’ from the Muslim former student.
