Abdikareem Hassan, 32, of Portland was arrested the night of the shooting after officers witnessed him hit a curb near the intersection of Franklin Street and Cumberland Avenue, police say. Police say the car he was driving was similar to the one wanted for the shooting, which had been reported stolen earlier that night.
WGAN(h/t Frank T) Hassan was arrested July 5th for driving under the influence in a stolen vehicle. The car in question matched the description of the dark sedan that opened fire on the Portland Police Department garage that same night.
While in custody, police say Hassan became uncooperative and assaulted an officer and FBI special agent in addition to damaging a police vehicle. Hassan was then charged with refusal to submit to arrest, assault on a police officer, assault on a federal officer, and criminal mischief.
Additional evidence was provided on Sunday, linking Hassan to the non-fatal shooting, and he is now being charged with reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon and illegal possession of a firearm by a prohibited person.
Police say the motivation for the shooting is still not clear and the investigation is still underway. (You can thank Barack Hussein Obama for dumping thousands of Somali Muslims into predominantly white Christian areas of Maine)
