I find it interesting that on the liberal side we have: Bill Maher, Sam Harris, Dawkins; on the conservative side we have Mark Steyn, Douglas Murray – and they have all come to exactly the same conclusion on Islam. Please try not to dismiss someone just because they don’t play for your team. 8 weeks ago was San Bernardino and people have already forgotten. We need to embrace and support Maher’s message and hope he can get through to his audience.
There is such a thing as a ‘moderate’ Muslim – I know a few here in SA where there is a significant Musilm sector of the population.
The problem is this – the CIA has estimated that no less than 15%, possibly 20% of all 1.8 billion Muslims of this world are engaged with (directly/indirectly), sympathetic to or supportive of the actions of ‘radical’ elements who claim to practise pure Islam. That means there are possibly 360 MILLION Muslims who would prefer – and are possibly working towards the fact that I – and you – as ‘infidels’ or ‘kufars’, were destroyed – usually in brutal ways set out by Mohammed.
So there exists the equivalent number of potentially murderous and actually murderous ‘fundamentalists’ as the entire population of America!
I don’t totally agree with them…yes if you know more about islam you should be afraid but I don’t agree that the there are islamists that we should work with…I think that some of believe they themselves are peaceful but they can flip and turn over any day and become a extremist because of what the quoran says.
I just remembered a good point that was made by Sam Harris regarding how best to stand up against evil. He rightly pointed out that one maniac armed with no more than a kitchen knife could murder a whole town-full of pacifists.
