Sadiq Khan, the new Muslim Mayor of London, has declared that pictures of scantily-clad female models will be banned from ads on public transportation, ushering in some of the most fundamentalist Islamic censorship policies in the Western world.
Breitbart (h/t Brenda K) Mayor Sadiq Khan (above) argued for the move by appropriating the language of feminism, claiming that alluring images of beautiful women could make them “ashamed of their bodies.” Ironically, the policy is likely to please both the misogynistic Islamist and prudish, third wave feminist, whose ends appear increasingly similar.
The announcement comes five years after suspected Islamists began painting over images of bikini clad women in Tower Hamlets in East London, and last year after feminists began similarly defacing images of women in bikinis on London transport.
Images of women are banned in public across large parts of the Muslim world, and the phenomenon is now spreading in the Western world.
Germany’s ‘progressive’ Justice Minister, Heiko Maas, recently promised to ban ads (below) which “reduce women or men to sexual objects” in an attempt to create a “modern gender image” following the mass sex attacks on New Year’s Eve in Cologne, committed by mostly Muslim migrants.
The London Mayor echoed these sentiments. He said in a statement: “As the father of two teenage girls, I am extremely concerned about this kind of advertising which can demean people, particularly women, and make them ashamed of their bodies. It is high time it came to an end.
“Nobody should feel pressurised, while they travel on the tube or bus, into unrealistic expectations surrounding their bodies and I want to send a clear message to the advertising industry about this.”
Transport for London commercial development director, Graeme Craig, said:
“Advertising on our network is unlike TV, online and print media. Our customers cannot simply switch off or turn a page if an advertisement offends or upsets them and we have a duty to ensure the copy we carry reflects that unique environment.”
In April of this year, the UK’s advertising watchdog announced an investigation into the “objectification and sexualisation of women in ads” because of an “increasing political and public debate” driven by “offended” feminists on social media.
The development follows the controversy surrounding Protein World last year — a fitness company that put up billboards in London showing a woman in a bikini beside the words: “Are you beach body ready?”
The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) had already started banning ads featuring attractive women, that supposedly cause “offence, or harm”. Such censorship may now become routine, as the ASA claims it is “alive to changing attitudes and behaviours.”
Feminists and so-called social justice warriors started an aggressive online campaign against the ads, which was picked up by the liberal media leading to more than 70,000 people signing a petition against the image.

Women are certainly objectified in bikini and fashion ads with bikinis, semi nude and nude images. A woman’s body is the focus of the attention in the ads. And they are using her sexuality to sell a product.
(Not that I have any personal objection to nude or semi nude women…but I still understand the principles that are employed in the advertisements.)
But the problem is that people do not realize that extremism in modesty is just as objectifying as the nudes are. The obsession of having a woman hiding her beauty and sexuality is a way of objectifying a woman by making her body and her beauty mysterious. And everyone knows that if you make something mysterious or forbidden it makes it often more appealing and desired. A woman covered from head to toe in niqab, hijab and abaya or a burqa is still being objectified but in a different way. A woman is made to feel shame of her body disguised as religious piety.
How evil. They’re trying to make way to sharia under the guise of “care for women and young girls”. We all know for sure that a burqa is a better symbol of women’s liberation.

Transport for London will establish an advertising steering group to advise on the Mayor’s new policy and ensure ads don’t breach the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) regulations.
Mr. Khan’s measures follow the 2015 controversy surrounding the Protein World “beach body ready” ads. After an investigation into the ads, the ASA ruled they were neither offensive or irresponsible and did not contravene ASA regulations.
Despite what the Mayor says, this is about his policies and underlying agendas, not ASA regulations and acting in public interest.
The investigation into the ads was prompted by 378 direct complaints to the ASA and a 70,000 strong petition resulting from an aggressive online campaign.
Negative response to the ruling and protest attendance was miniscule (or pathetic). Most people that got caught up in this “cause” and made noise didn’t feel strongly about it at all.
Even if the 70,378 people that made objections known did feel strongly? Numbers are miniscule compared to “Transport Statistics Great Britain 2015” passenger journey totals:
Bus services: 5.2 billion
Light rail systems: 240 million
Rail – 1.7 billion

Companies selling merchandise buy these ad spaces and pay $$$ for them. The city no doubt gets huge revenue for these ad spaces on transit vehicles, bus shelters and transit station walls. If the restrictions on ads are too much, example no bare skin shown between head and ankles and wrists (burkasized) then the companies will not bother buying the ad space. They will go elsewhere with their money. The city gets less revenue and then they have to make up for that loss with raising taxes. People do not like paying higher taxes. They also move out. This mayor is going to lose the next election if not for many other reasons.
Throwing paints or otherwise defacing a poster is vandalism. It is a crime. You would think that with all the CCTV in London that these clowns with the paint would be arrested.
