WHAT A SURPRISE…NOT. Afghan Muslim evacuees cause $260 million in damages to U.S. military bases in which they were housed
U.S. military bases that hosted Afghan Muslim evacuees during the Biden administration’s withdrawal from Afghanistan incurred almost $260 million in damages, according to the Department of Defense’s inspector general.
Daily Wire The damages, which made some of the facilities not usable for American soldiers, came as the U.S. airlifted 120,000 individuals from Afghanistan in 17 days. Defense Department officials approved $259.5 million in repairs and restoration costs across Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marine properties, according to an inspector general report made publicly available this week.
During the Afghanistan withdrawal, evacuees were temporarily allowed to stay at Fort Bliss, Texas; Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, New Jersey; Fort McCoy, Wisconsin; Camp Atterbury, Indiana; Fort Pickett, Fort Lee, and Marine Corps Base Quantico, Virginia; and Holloman Air Force Base, New Mexico.
For example, Fort McCoy, which housed 12,706 refugees, was approved for $145.6 million to repair buildings and plumbing, an amount that was more than three times the combined restoration needs of Fort Bliss and Fort Pickett, which had housed similar numbers of refugees.
Fort Lee needed $632,000 to repair ceiling tiles, doors, and electric systems while Fort Pickett received funds for cleaning, painting, and repairing HVAC systems, and plumbing. At Fort McCoy, the majority of the damages were found at the 213 buildings housing Afghan refugees.
Some of the damages were so bad that they inhibited regular operation at some Army properties.
In one case, training for the Indiana National Guard was relocated from Camp Atterbury to Fort Campbell, Kentucky, due to damages caused during “Operation Allies Welcome (OAW).” The facilities need to be restored “to a condition that enables them to conduct trainings, prepare for future events, and return to normal base operations,” the IG found.
For example, of the $260 million in approved restoration costs, the Defense Department approved about $16 million for Camp Atterbury “to replace mattresses and furniture and repair floors, doors, windows, plumbing, fire alarm systems, and landscaping.”
Air Force officials also reported costly damages to their bases following the evacuation operations. According to the report, officials at Ramstein Air Base in Germany also said that some of the damages by the “guests was unrepairable.”
“Air Force officials describe tables, chairs, and cots broken by guests and tents and cots ruined by spray paint, human biological matter, and holes,” the report said. One official claimed that their materials were “completely depleted” and not available for “real world missions.”
At Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, the report says that “officials reported that guests damaged facility water systems by forcing large items into pipes, causing clogs.” According to the officials, the clogs could not be fixed using “conventional plumbing tools.”
Meanwhile, the U.S. Navy sought $3.3 million to restore facilities in Spain, but the auditors approved just $810,000.
The Defense Department approved $12.7 million for the U.S. Marine Corps for restorations including roofing, heating and ventilation at Quantico in Virginia — down from $20.3 million that was requested.
“Based on the initial estimates compared to the final estimate, DoD Components involved with OAW will need to pay $103.1 million from their own operation and maintenance or military construction appropriations to cover OAW damages,” the report said.
Earlier this year, another report from the Defense Department Inspector General detailed other aspects of the chaotic Afghanistan withdrawal, including lax security enforcement for evacuees at Fort Pickett. At the fort, there were “few repercussions” for felonies and misdemeanors committed by Afghan evacuees at the fort, examples of which include stealing a vehicle, physical abuse, and making weapons.
When crimes were reported at the fort, security personnel needed the Blackstone Police Department and Virginia State Police in Nottoway County to investigate and make arrests for crimes. However, because of the other responsibilities of the police in Blackstone, Virginia, “misdemeanors went unaddressed as local law enforcement did not have the capacity to handle them.”

After the so-called refugees inhabited housing long enough it’s cheaper to use the wrecking ball and rebuild than fixing what they left behind.
Yeah i could have told you all that 8 years ago. This experience we had allready here in germany and in all of europe. We have examples like the washmashine is used as a toilet because the toilet is overflowing while they dont know that you flush after use. This kind of behavior is normal for someone who has no education except koranschool for 7 years and now he is a rocket specialist or brainsurgeon (ha ha ha). The big shit is that after they make the mess the german hotelmaids have to clean the mess up and i say take a look in the internet and you can see what awaits you and your country. Germany has taken this year alone 1.2 million invader and that is not counting the million ukrainer. You see soon the party will be over and the hour of power will raise her head and shine on all of us or not.
Please cut them some slack. Most Afghan villagers haven’t seen a toilet with a plumbing system back in their holes. They just slop it out like God intended humans to do.
