Poachers to be welcomed home from second Iraq tour…protest pictures
Luton will get a chance to say thank you to its home-grown soldiers when =
men and women from the 2nd Battalion of the Royal Anglian Regiment march =
through the town.
The battalion, nicknamed The Poachers, recruits from Bedfordshire, and =
its soldiers will march through the streets of Luton to mark their =
recent return home from their second six-month tour of Iraq in two =
years.
The homecoming parade takes place on March 10 and will see 200 soldiers =
march through the town centre, led by a military band. It will start at =
12.30pm in Park Street West, and the soldiers will proceed along Flowers =
Way, Castle Street, Market Hill, George Street, Upper George Street and =
Gordon Street, finishing the parade in St George’s Square.
There they will be met by HRH the Duke of Gloucester, Colonel-in-chief =
for the regiment, the Lord Lieutenant of Bedfordshire, Sam Whitbread JP, =
and General Sir John McColl KCB, together with the Mayor of Luton, =
Councillor Lakhbir Singh, and after an inspection of the parade the =
party will move on to a reception in honour of the soldiers.
Councillor Singh said: “The Royal Anglian Regiment was given freedom of =
the town some years ago and we are proud to welcome them back. We hope =
as many people as possible will come out and show their support and =
appreciation of these brave soldiers.”
