Peaceful protester, Eric Brazau was arrested for dressing up like a Muslim and reading quotes from the quran as well as a list of “benefits” you get for being a religious fanatic in Islam. It was a satirical performance which exposed facts about Islam that Muslims would prefer people not hear.
Eric Brazau says he will appeal his sentence.
The Star: (h/t Robert F) A ‘notorious’ protester convicted of wilfully promoting hatred against Muslims and criminally harassing a Muslim man and his family was sentenced Tuesday to nine months in jail. Eric Brazau handed out a flyer that “vilified Muslims and disparages their religion,” Ontario court Judge S. Ford Clements said in February, when he found Brazau guilty.
Brazau handed out the flyer, which contained many offensive truthful references to Islam and Muslims, in August and September 2012. While distributing it, Brazau sometimes yelled obscenities about Islam “in a tone of voice that suggested he was very angry and had little interest in debate,” Clements said.
Brazau had argued that he did not intend to promote hate speech; instead he wanted to stimulate debate about censorship, “blasphemy laws” and Sharia law, Clements said.
Clements disagreed. “He knew the material would deeply wound and anger Muslims,” said Clements. The content was not humorous, ironic or satirical, he said. “Mr. Brazau is far too intelligent to believe this to be so.”
The flyer also contained a somewhat blurred photograph of a Muslim family on a downtown Toronto street. The man in the photo testified that Brazau called him a “terrorist” on the day Brazau took the photo.
In a second interaction a few weeks later on a sidewalk, the man, whose name is protected by a publication ban, said that Brazau approached him aggressively while photographing the family, making him “concerned and fearful.” Clements found this to be criminal harassment.
During sentencing submissions, Crown prosecutor Derek Ishak described Brazau as an “unrepentant hatemonger … who abused his right to freedom of speech in a planned, deliberate manner,” Clements said Tuesday in his sentencing decision.
However, Clements said that while Brazau’s conduct was “despicable” and his beliefs “repugnant,” the maximum sentence of six months for a summary conviction on willfully promoting hatred was unwarranted.
He also noted the defence submission that Brazau committed his offences in public, where he was easily identifiable, rather than by stealth. Instead, he gave Brazau a four-month sentence, plus two months for criminal harassment and mischief and three months for breach of probation by not keeping the peace. Brazau, who had spent nine months in pre-trial custody, was sentenced to time served.
Clements declined to ban Brazau from distributing flyers, since that could impede his right to freedom of expression. Outside the court, Brazau said he will appeal his sentence. He says he is aware the flyer was “problematic” and “would offend.”
But his voice won’t be silenced, Brazau added, though he will keep in mind the hate speech laws, which he says he has learned to navigate over the past few months.
“Hatred is the harvest he wanted to gather,” Clements said in his conviction decision, quoting William Butler Yeats. “I find this is true of Mr. Brazau.”

I think Don is travelling at present; being his friend I will say that I agree with both your tabled comments.
As you said well, a lot of people think in a ‘block’ and not as individual issues.
I am a swinging voter, I make my decisions based upon policies, mission statements and performance results, I vote for individuals not for parties.
To me thinking in a ‘block’ is the same as thinking locked into ‘fixed dogma’ mindset – I prefer to think outside the square, I reject politically correct thinking. My focus has always been to be dynamic when necessary, adapt to change when required and respect proven path fact regardless of whom tabled it.
Any idea/belief that rejects proven facts must be rejected as being founded on false knowledge.
I believe it was reasonable for people to believe in religion a hundred years ago as a fixed dogma. But science has discovered and proven by fact the existence of so many facts that it is time for all religions to adapt and change. They can still retain their faith but they need to update in line with science. And they need to recognise some texts which are simply not true- but that must be an individual decision.
Islam is not a religion and is in fact a political cult disguised as a religion. It is now urgent that people wake up and recognise this fact.
The Gay lifestyle sends me cold, but they have the right to live as they choose provided they behave in much the same way as Heterosexuals must also behave by the laws and values of common decency.

Greens claim to care about environment and wildlife preservation but they cannot comprehend that Muslims don’t care about ‘Green’ protection of the planet. Now I am not a fan of pigs myself, uncontrolled like goats and rabbits they can do a lot of destruction on the land. But they do have the same right as all life to exist.
In marketing circles they sell ‘think outside the square.’ But in reality a large percentage of people that do think outside a square are still trapped by fixed dogma thinking inside a larger square.
Fixed dogma is not just about religion, it is also about all other Belief Systems in Politics, cults and philosophy that rejects adaptation to new discoveries.
To truly think outside the square means to step completely outside the square and look inside it and outside it- that demands the courage to adapt and change when one recognises what we originally believed is in fact by new discovered evidence actually false knowledge.
I believe most people that accept Islam are afraid to step outside the comfort zone of their fixed dogma thinking and that is why they are so apathetic.
Others that recognise the truth about Islam are submissive due to their own cowardice- afraid to stand up against Islam.
I might add whilst there are many courageous Christians standing publicly against Islam the majority of Christians are doing the opposite and hiding in apathy- thinking the problem of Bully Islam will simply go away.
That is not going to happen until we of the ‘Free World’ unite as a majority – all ‘Belief Systems’ as one ‘Global Freedom Resistance’ force and reject Islam in Total- no compromise.

Ezra Levant was successful with his appeals over the lawsuit by Muslims that he won to get repealed that part of the law that condemns free speech as hate speech. I wonder if this verdict was delivered under the old law. I’ve been trying all day to get information but can’t find it and am waiting to hear back from experts. Brazeau will appeal and will win, surely, because we don’t want this sort of inequity in Canada. Where were the cops when Muslims spat on me and called me “a filthy Jew”? There are other ways of informing the population while gaining credibility, most especially in Ontario, the province that is in the process of full-blown islamization.

He is lucky that he did not lose his head. The judge could have done that in front of the courthouse. Too messy in front of the bench. 9 months awaiting trial??? behind bars. The canuck judge must have worried that this guy was a real threat to the muzzzies and had to be caged. His next incarceration will be much more severe.

But my experience has been the ones who display that “smugness” are the most ignorant of issues that will eventually impact their lives in the most horrific way.

It’s not enough to find people who will stand up and tell the truth about islam and be willing to run for political office. That alone won’t do it.
You have to be able to EDUCATE people about islam and the evils therein, and CONVINCE them of the very real threat, and most people just do not care.

We might have a Conservative govt., but then they do in England too, and while England is a disaster that just gets worse every day, our Conservatives could and should do a hell of a lot more.
