Jim, I was just discussing that with Mr. BNI. They’ve got these great big guns, but apparently are told not to use them.
This is actually probable. I can’t speak for the French military but I know the average US service member (excluding gate guards, military police, sensitive area sentries) are usually allowed to have live ammunition accompanying their weapons only when on live ranges or in a combat zone. The majority of the time you see troops with weapons they are unloaded. Its not like in the movies or TV where every military person has a loaded piece always within reach. If this were so the Ft. hood shooting death toll would have been dramatically reduced. If anything it’s more the opposite. I pulled sentry duty about a hundred times in the Army (Germany, never the sandbox) didn’t have ammo once. Problem is that our leadership will likely realize all too later that wherever there are Muslims our troops need to be combat ready.
Time for some facts on Vigipirate – Sentinelle, Reminder that we’re on high alert here so : yes, bullets (charger). Not told not to fire but to be kept in mind that those are CIVILIANS areas, so you can’t just fire as if you were in a war-zone situation, you must act accordingly.
