Prince Charles and Prince William were unwilling to meet Donald Trump on his visit to Britain, leaving the Queen to greet the US president alone. The first two in line to the throne let it be known during informal discussions about the arrangements for the president’s four-day trip that they did not want to take part.
The Times (h/t Thereza B) Downing Street and Buckingham Palace said Trump’s tour was not a state visit and that the only plan drawn up involved the Queen greeting the president and his wife Melania alone. However, a well-placed source said senior courtiers discussed which royals to include and shared concerns about Charles’s and William’s reluctance to participate.
“This business of Prince Charles and Prince William not being there for the Trump visit was a snub,” the source said. “They simply refused to attend. It’s a very, very unusual thing for the Queen to be there on her own. Usually she is accompanied by somebody. Prince Charles has been substituting for Philip a lot recently.”
Like a good little dhimmi wife, Prince Charles’ wife Camilla removes her shoes before entering a mosque in Abu Dhabi, but Charles kept his on.
Apparently, Prince William and wife, Kate, appear to be much more sharia-compliant than Charles:
Prince Philip, 97, has retired from royal duties, but the source said: “He goes to what he wants to go to, and if he had wanted to be there he could have been.”
Charles and William spent their Friday doing more than changing Prince Louis’ diapers and flipping through the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s wedding album; Charles attended a board meeting and a Gloucestershire police event, and William played in a charity polo match. Catherine Garcia
One Whitehall official involved in the planning said Trump’s time with the Queen was also “kept to the bare minimum”. He added: “The Queen will do her duty, but among the wider family, they were not as enthusiastic as they were when Obama came over.”
Even on working visits, such as Trump’s last week, dignitaries expect to meet several members of the royal family. In 2016 Barack and Michelle Obama not only had lunch at Windsor Castle with the Queen and Prince Philip, they also had a private dinner at Kensington Palace with the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle had already decided not to invite Trump to their wedding. The duchess made several disparaging remarks about the US president before she was engaged to Harry.
Last year it emerged that Trump was reluctant to meet Charles because of their divergent views on climate change. His aides suggested a meeting with the younger royals but that did not happen, and plans for Prince Andrew to play golf with Trump were torn up.
PRINCE CHARLES has praised Somali Muslim killer pirates for scaring off fishermen that has led to a “fantastic explosion for bigger and better fish”.
Speaking at an ocean conservation conference in Malta, the Prince of Wales stirred up controversy by praising Somalian pirates for scaring off trawler crews to create a greater wealth of marine life. The Royal said: “As a result, there hasn’t been any fishing there for the last ten or 15 years. And from that, there has been a fantastic explosion of bigger and bigger fish.”
Since delivering his contentious comments, two former military members have lashed out at the Prince for his apparent endorsement of Somalian gangs. Ex-SAS trooper and anti-piracy expert Phil Campion and ex-soldier Stephen Beardsley have both called the Royal out for his unethical endorsement.
Mr Campion stated: “These are nasty gangs doing extreme harm, not worrying about life. “There’s a few extra fish. Compare that to people’s lives lost, it’s insensitive. If Charles thought about it he’d have a change of heart.”
Mr Beardsley echoed the statement by the former SAS trooper: “They aren’t friendly, never mind environmentally friendly.” Five Britons have been captured by Somalian pirates who have launched 103 attacks on ships since 2012. Maritime stats state that 1,753 people have been taken hostage by pirates worldwide with 12 being killed.
America has been at war with Islam in the region of Somalia, starting with the war against the Barbary (which comes from ‘barbaric’) Muslim pirates a year after the nation was born.
