If you get into a discussion about the Civil Rights Act you need to know it was passed with a bipartisan vote. The Majority of Republicans joined by a Minority of Democrats voted for it. The Majority of Democrats voted against it and were joined by a Minority of Republicans. That is the record of the vote in Congressional Archives.
Also as for Jr’s political affiliation it is up in the air. However according to his niece he was a Republican. Thus far no one has been able to produce an actual voting record showing his party affiliation.
