My new MAC computer has arrived…and believe it or not, it actually got here 7 days before it was scheduled to arrive! Mr. Computer Guy is coming over to tomorrow to set it up. Hopefully, things will be back to normal soon.

Do you shut your ‘puter down at night?
I only shut mine down when I’m going away for a few days. The electronics operate better when the temperatures are stable. No warm-up-cool-down cycles to shorten their relative lifespan.
Yes, I shut it down every night and never had a problem restarting it. The new one now goes on in seconds.
BNI, that is good news. I shut my computer down every night. No problem starting it again next time I get up.

Great news with all the shortages and sipply chain you are lucky.The main thing I need to know with computers is the ON OFF switch any thing else thats what Grandchildren are for .12 and 14 year old smart arses know everything about computers but sadly lacking in what us oldies know about fixing other stuff and handling money.We make a great team though.

It’s a miracle. It took me more than two months to get a new frigerator after the old one conked out in the summer.

I still got the best one though. My laptop’s better than anyone else’s. It was already fast when I purchased in August but now it’s working at a breakneck high speed after a recent RAM upgrade. I have to slow down often because I’m not used to so many windows opening so quickly

Finally figured ou the cause of my MAC problem. The power switch on the computer had shorted out probably more than one time because there were black marks all around it on the back of the computer. In any case, the new one is up and running now.
Which goes back to my diagnosis of the POWER SUPPLY.
No charge for you, my dear. And that marking was caused by “arcing”, your WOTD.
You were right. But in speaking to the Apple guy about something on the new one, I mentioned the black markings around the power switch on the old one which we never looked at until we took it down, and he said that probably led to its decline, but moreso, using it virtually everyday for many hours for 10 years was the main problem.
Which was the result of all those years of on-and-off every day. No opinion of either way, except to say I do not power down any of my computers except the laptop for obvious reasons.
Just asked Mr Computer Guy about that and he said that is Old Time technology thinking. Not applicable today especially in terms of the internet and giving potential hackers 24/7 access to your computer.
Just call me “Mr. Old School”……
