The Hamas-linked organization (CAIR-Los Angeles) said Santa Ana College professor Jamie McDonough made stereotypical comments in a recorded lecture for her psychology course about the roles of men and women in Muslim countries. CAIR officials accused her of saying Muslims live in a “complete patriarchal society” where “men dominate women.” The organization said McDonough claimed a Muslim husband “can cheat and have mistresses.” (Not to mention 4 wives at the same time)
MyNewsLA Dina Chehata, a civil rights attorney for CAIR’s Los Angeles chapter, said the professor’s comments “demonstrate a complete lack of familiarity with the history, beliefs, practices, and cultures of Muslim communities around the world.
“The offensive tropes used by Professor McDonough can have a deep, negative impact on Muslim students and on the view non-Muslim students have of their Muslim peers,” Chehata said.
“Professor McDonough’s misrepresentations of Muslims being a barbaric, misogynistic monolith, without nuance or humanity, can impact Muslim students’ mental and physical health.” (Yeah but not half as much negative impact that Islam actually has on Muslims’ mental and physical health)
Chehata is demanding that college and district officials apologize for the professor’s comments and better train educators about Islam. McDonough should also be reprimanded (if not fired) and better educated about Muslim customs (which CAIR will be happy to provide, of course).
CAIR-LA urges Santa Ana College to take serious action against Professor McDonough’s remarks and ensure that the campus remains a safe and welcoming space for Muslim students.”
