AMARILLO, Texas: Efran Salmanzadeh accused of detonating an explosive in his backyard last July is now facing four charges related to the incident, according to a superseding indictment filed in the US District Court in the Northern District of Texas.
ABC7 News A federal grand jury added the indictment on Thursday in the case of a Muslim who had explosives in the Paramount Terrace neighborhood in July 2021.
Along with three counts of making and possessing an unregistered destructive device, Efran Salmanzadeh is being charged with use and attempted use of a weapon of mass destruction. He was already facing 3 charges of making explosive devices including a suicide vest and bombs.
Salmanzadeh’s trial is set to start in August.
KGNC (July 2021) Just after 4pm the Amarillo Fire Department was called to a residence in the 3600 block of Lenwood Drive on an explosion. Once on scene, crews found material commonly used in explosive making and called for the surrounding area to be evacuated.
The Amarillo Police Department arrested 32-year-old Erfan Salmanzadeh for Possession of Components of Explosives, Texas Penal Code 46.09, a 3rd Degree Felony and was booked into the Randall County Jail.
APD Bomb Team Technicians began securing evidence at the scene. The FBI and Homeland Security Investigations-Amarillo Field Office are assisting with the case.
