Despite a growing trend in the Arab world of states creating closer economic and military ties with Israel, Iraq has chosen a path not of progress, but of regression. Methinks Iran is heavily involved in this decision.
The legislation, unanimously passed by the Iraqi Parliament, applies to all Iraqis, governmental and independent institutions, as well as foreign nationals working in Iraq. The law bans any relations with Israel, including political, economic, cultural, scientific, or sports related ties. Violators of the law will face severe penalties, including life imprisonment or capital punishment.
