My vet said that the first thing that was drummed into the vet students’ heads is that “horses are strong.” That horse would have no problem with that rider even though she was a little on the pudgy side.
VMS, Most likely, he doesn’t like the way she rides him, and there could be a lot of reasons for that.
The horse I have now used to be a lesson horse that most students couldn’t ride because he was too strong, too fast, and hated riders who pulled on his mouth all the time, a habit of most beginner/intermediate students. Because I prefer horses that are strong and fast, I knew how to ride him without bothering him and was able to buy him cheap from the stable that was losing money on him because he couldn’t be used for lessons.

The horse wants a slender rider. Not an overweight/obese rider to exhaust her and bring her down.
