In what can only be described as an example of the fox guarding the hen house, City University of New York (CUNY) is assigning a former director of the Hamas-linked Council for American Islamic Relations (CAIR) in Minnesota to investigate an anti-Semitism and anti-Zionism complaint made internally by a Jewish professor.
Daily Caller (h/t Marvin W) CUNY assigned its chief diversity officer, Saly Abd Alla, the former Muslim rights director of CAIR’s Minnesota chapter, to investigate an email sent by Kingsborough Community College (KCC) professor Jeffrey Lax, accusing its president of anti-Zionist antisemitic discrimination.
Is this some kind of cruel joke? You actually hire someone associated with an organization, #CAIR, that demonizes Israel and Jewish people to investigate the harassment of Jews and Zionists on CUNY campuses?

CAIR is listed by the U.S. Department of Justice as an unindicted co-conspirator in funding millions of dollars to the Palestinian terrorist organization Hamas, and their leaders have previously called for the destruction of Israel. The United Arab Emirates (UAE) named CAIR a terrorist organization in 2014 and maintains that designation today.
“We don’t want Jews here. That’s the message that it sends,” said Lax in an interview with the the Daily Caller News Foundation.“We don’t want Jews here.
He noted that Alla is in charge of overseeing all discrimination investigations at the “single largest urban university in the country,” which encompasses 25 campuses and close to 300,000 students. “When you have someone from CAIR leading a discrimination office throughout the university, you are the biggest cause of the antisemitism,” he continued.
Lax shared his email to CUNY’s Office of Recruitment and Diversity with the DCNF. (NYC’s Universities Allegedly Turned A Blind Eye To Antisemitism For Years, Complaint Says)
He told the DCNF his complaint emphasized that KCC President Claudia Schrader “completely stopped” communicating with him regarding previous internal complaints he made after the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission ruled the college repeatedly discriminated against observant Jews and supporters of Israel. He added that Schrader hired a proponent of the anti-Israel Boycott Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement to the school’s Diversity Equity and Inclusion search committee, which includes no Jewish members, despite being created partially to address antisemitism claims.
Lax also told the DCNF that Schrader often releases public statements whenever an incident of racism or bigotry occurs at the university, but she never publicly condemned a CUNY student who took a bat to an Orthodox Jew at an off campus pro-Palestine rally in 2021.
iPetitions On Friday, May 13, in only the most recent outrageous eruption of enabled/tolerated antisemitism at the City University of New York (CUNY), renowned Jew-haterNerdeen Kiswani was honored by the university with delivering its Law School’s commencement address.
Weeks earlier, in April 2022, CUNY faculty union leaders marched alongside Kiswani in demanding that their own Zionist faculty colleagues be ousted from CUNY, promoting a #ZionismOutofCUNY rally outside of the CUNY graduate center.
Kiswani is the founder and director of Within Our Lifetime, a group that demands the complete destruction of Israel and that has been banned from Instagram for violence-inciting hate speech.
Days after Kiswani’s commencement address, it was revealed that CUNY Law School had formally endorsed the antisemitic Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions movement. In other words, Zionist Jews and Israelis would no longer be welcome to work at, with, or to attend CUNY School of Law.
Kiswani was named “Antisemite of the Year” by non-profit antisemitism tracker, Stop Antisemitism.org. In September 2020, Kiswani ignited a cigarette lighter and held it within inches of a man wearing a sweatshirt with an Israel Defense Forces logo on a subway, threatening: “I’m gonna set it on fire… I’m serious.” In July 2021, Kiswani virulently called for the death of Zionists. Kiswani advocates for Intifada and expressed solidarity with a USC graduate student who Tweeted her desire to “kill every mother*king Zionist.”
The City University of New York (CUNY) university system allegedly failed to address numerous antisemitic incidents and attacks in its schools over the past decade, according to a complaint.
The American Center for Law And Justice (ACLJ) sent a letter on July 19 to the Department of Education (DOE) requesting an investigation of CUNY, which includes 25 public campuses, to determine whether the university system discriminated against Jewish students and permitted a “hostile environment” for Jews. The complaint also asks the DOE to determine whether CUNY violated Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which prohibits any institution receiving federal funds from discriminating the basis of race, color or national origin.
“CUNY has done nothing to protect its observant and Zionist Jewish faculty members from a scheme of ongoing discrimination, retaliation, harassment and a hostile work environment,” the complaint states. “At the Professional Staff Congress’ demand, CUNY has even refused to investigate the myriad allegations of antisemitism asserted by observant and Zionist Jews against the PFC Respondents and has thus tacitly endorsed the widespread antisemitism and discrimination.”
The complaint highlights several incidents of alleged antisemitism at CUNY since 2013 which targeted professors. For instance, a Jewish professor was allegedly asked by her students “how many students she had killed,” and another professor allegedly had swastikas etched into her classroom door and had urine poured on her keyboard.
Additionally, the CUNY Doctoral Students’ Council created a “Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions” club despite warnings from ACJL that adopting the club would send a “clear antisemitic message,” the complaint stated.
At Kingsborough Community College in 2018, a photograph of former college president Leon Goldstein was allegedly violated with the words “F*ck Trump. Kill the Zionist Entity,” and flyers featuring images of Goldstein’s teenage daughter were circulated around the school, according to the complant. A newspaper called the “Challenge” published and distributed articles around campus calling Goldstein a “racist, anti-Muslim and anti-gay,” but no disciplinary action was taken by the college.
Student members of the Brooklyn College Israel Club were allegedly verbally abused and called “dirty jews” by fellow students, and graffiti of swastikas were found on the campus in 2013, the lawsuit states. Moreover, the campus library at the John Jay College of Criminal Justice was vandalized with swastikas and a student was allegedly called a “zionist pig” in 2015.
“CUNY has become a hotbed for discrimination and antisemitism,” the complaint reads. “Students and faculty at Baruch College, John Jay College of Criminal Justice, Brooklyn College and Hunter College, among others, have complained about the antisemitic climate on their individual campuses. Jewish students and faculty have consistently reported feeling physically unsafe.”
