The Islamic nation of Qatar was named to host the (soccer) World Cup. Ahead of the 2022 championship, homophobic content has continued to appear in the Qatari media, including in the form of cartoons. Over the last year, the Qatari press has published many cartoons that disparage the LGBTQ community, express apprehension about gay fans visiting Qatar for the games, and stress the need to protect Qatar from pro-LGBTQ attitudes.
MEMRIThese cartoons match the general anti-gay attitude prevalent in Qatar. It should be noted that this discourse is at odds with the joint commitments made by FIFA and Qatar in January 2020, which include a commitment to avoid any form of discrimination against World Cip participants and attendees on account of race, skin color, gender, sexual orientation, etc.
Various Qatari spokespersons, chief of them the Emir Tamim Bin Hamad Aal Thani, stress that, although Qatar will welcome all visitors, it expects them to respect its (homophobic) culture and conservative values.

This is just a modern version of the 1936 Berlin Olympics. Right?
Except it’s been in planning for 12 years and nobody has done f**k all about it.
Lots of people are only suddenly saying their discomfort at the last minute including yourself and other similar blogs (no offense, just saying).
This so-called “tournament” is going to be a clusterf**k, their security services behave like the Mafia
BareNakedIslam says
Rob, to tell the truth, I didn’t know about it until I read this story. Stories about soccer aren’t high, or even on, my daily reading list. I wish you had let me now about it.
Rob R says
Yeah,…..I get that soccer isn’t front and centre in your country. To many over here it’s the only thing in their (lame) lives
I guess I could have said a heads up but ya know, living in the time of President Alzheimer makes a person feel deflated and such
BareNakedIslam says
Rob, a lot of my posts come from readers’ selections. Don’t hesitate.
Toxic White Male says
I think anyone who supports decency and good, wholesome, family values should be against homosexuality and other deviant and degenerate behavior. As much as it pains my to say, I have to take the side of Qatar on this one.
Rob R says
You dont “have to” take any side cause no-ones pointing a gun at your head
Do you support prison or the death sentence for homosexual sex? That’s what they have over in towelhead land.
BLR says
in the order of great threats in this world I don’t see these gay people on my list I do see Islam high at the top along with a few other cult driven hate groups disguised as religion zealots and not of ancient Jewish kind

As much as I despise Islam, I actually have to side with Qatar on this. I’m Russian, LGBT/homosexuality goes against Russian values, and it’s often Western liberals who try to import LGBT ideology into Russia as well (and Slavic Europe at large).
The Western world (particularly Western liberals) fail to realize that a lot of nations in Asia and Africa are not filled with decadent LGBT ideology like the West is, and don’t want it forced on them.
“Homophobia” is a liberal buzzword, just like “Islamophobia.”
I’m not ashamed to say that I’m a “homophobic Russian” since the decadent sodomite ideology in the West is against Russian culture/values and is an alien import.
So as much as a hate Islam, I actually side with Qatar in not wanting foreign Western LGBT ideology imported and forced.
I don’t condone killing or murder, but the Western liberals ought to quit trying to force decadent “Western values” on the entire continent of Africa and a good chunk of Asia and Slavic Europe.

See: Leviticus, 18:22-29 for example. Unfortunately, many Christian churches are of the “Everyone is welcome here” persuasion enabling the LGBTQW(Whatever) movement to spread and gain legitimacy. Most gay Leftists are also anti-Christian except when it suits their agenda.
The Quataris aren’t fooling anyone nor are any of the Muslim majority countries that surreptitiously practice “Bacha Bawzi”. Even worse is beastiality which is an abomination.
Qatar mainly, as well as Libya and Saudi Arabia, also developed and financed Common Core to deliberately dumb down our kids which is one reason why the U.S. ranks 27th worldwide in eduction. There are lots of legitimate reasons to be suspicious of anything Islamic.
FaithfulServantsOfChristKJV says
There actually is some truth to that. Islamic society has historically been a playground for same-sexual area perversion, even though the Quran and Hadiths condemn homosexual activity.
In fact, Western travelers in colonial times noted and were horrified the widespread homosexual pedophilia in the Islamic world.
The Englishman Joseph Pitts, a sailor who was captured and sold into slavery at Algiers in 1678 noted:
“This horrible sin of Sodomy is so far from being punish’d amongst them, that it is part of their ordinary Discourse to boast of their detestable Actions of that kind. ’Tis common for Men there [Algiers] to fall in Love with Boys, as ’tis here in England to be in Love with Women”.
(El-Rouayheb, Khaled. Before Homosexuality in the Arab-Islamic World, 1500-1800, University of Chicago Press, 2005. 13.)
The French traveller Charles-Nicolas-Sigisbert Sonnini de Manoncourt, who visited Egypt between 1777 and 1780, made a similar observation:
“The passion contrary to nature . . . the inconceivable appetite which dishonored the Greeks and Persians of antiquity, constitute the delight, or, to use a juster term, the infamy of the Egyptians. It is not for the women that their amorous ditties are composed: it is not on them that tender caresses are lavished; far different objects inflame them.”
(El-Rouayheb, Khaled. Before Homosexuality in the Arab-Islamic World, 1500-1800, University of Chicago Press, 2005. 13.)
The Dutch traveler Johan Stavorinus reported/was horrified about male homosexuality and even bestiality among Mughals living in Bengal:
“The sin of Sodom is not only universal in practice among them, but extends to a bestial communication with brutes, and in particular, sheep. Women even abandon themselves to the commission of unnatural crimes.”
[Johan Stavorinus, Voyages to the East Indies, G G. Robinson (London), 1798, pp. 455-56. Cited in Grcenberg, p. 180.]
In fact, Muslims who traveled to Europe were shocked to see that homosexuality was shunned and condemned as immoral in Europe (since that is exactly what sodomite acts are)
The Moroccan scholar Muhammad al Saffār, who visited Paris in 1845– 46, wrote:
“Flirtation, romance, and courtship for them take place only with women, for they are not inclined to boys or young men. Rather, that is extremely disgraceful to them”.
(El-Rouayheb, Khaled. Before Homosexuality in the Arab-Islamic World, 1500-1800, University of Chicago Press, 2005. 13.)
The Egyptian scholar Rifāah al Tahtāwī, who was in Paris between 1826 and 1831, noted:
“Amongst the laudable traits of their character, similar really to those of the Bedouin [arab], is their not being inclined toward loving male youths and eulogizing them in poetry, for this is something unmentionable for them and contrary to their nature and morals. One of the positive aspects of their language and poetry is that it does not permit the saying of love poetry of someone of the same sex. Thus, in the French language a man cannot say: I loved a youth (ghulām), for that would be an unacceptable and awkward wording. Therefore if one of them translates one of our books he avoids this by saying in the translation: I loved a young female (ghulāmah) or a person (dhātan).”
(El-Rouayheb, Khaled. Before Homosexuality in the Arab-Islamic World, 1500-1800, University of Chicago Press, 2005. 13.)
Deborah Elliott says
So glad you brought all of that out. Even I was getting a little lulled into the idea that liberal ideologies should not be pushed on the Islamic world and forget how prevalent pedophelia is among them and that beastiality is not condemned and widely practiced.
FaithfulServantsOfChristKJV says
Well, truthfully speaking, Western liberal ideologies should not be pushed on any non-Western nation.
I’m Russian, and LGBT goes against Russian culture, and it’s always Western liberals forcing it on us.
This sort of cultural imperialism from the Western liberals is one of the many reasons why the West is hated in Russia, the Middle East, and other Asian nations.
The West should just keep it’s decadent Western liberalism within it’s own borders.
FaithfulServantsOfChristKJV says
But that’s the reality. In fact, it’s a basic fact that although the Quran and Hadith condemn same-sex perversion, the Islamic world has been a hotbed for homosexuality, pedophilia, and even sometimes beastiality.
Public attitudes toward homosexuality in the Muslim world became mostly negative as a result of the gradual spread of Islamic fundamentalist movements such as Salafism and Wahhabism in the 19th century.

(Dialmy, Abdessamad. May 13 2010. “Sexuality and Islam”. The European Journal of Contraception & Reproductive Health Care. 15 (3): 160–168.)
The influence of the sexual notions and conservative norms prevalent in Europe at the time resulted in a number of Muslim-majority countries retaining criminal penalties for homosexual acts enacted under European colonial rule of those Islamic nations.
(Ira M. Lapidus; Lena Salaymeh (2014). A History of Islamic Societies. Cambridge University Press. Kindle edition. pp. 361–362.)
(Tilo Beckers, “Islam and the Acceptance of Homosexuality,” in Islam and Homosexuality, Volume 1, ed. Samar Habib, 64-65. Praeger, 2009).
In Iran, men could have same-sexual intimacy with other men without being in a formal relationship. Young men without facial hair were considered beautiful and older men would pursue them. It was not until the 1800s, when Europeans began to visit Iran, that the view of homosexuality and male homosexual relationships became negative. Visiting European men claimed the homosexual relations between Iranian men were immoral. This conservative European perspective on homosexuality was widely adopted by Iranian society.
(Najmabadi, Afsaneh (2005). Women with Mustaches and Men without Beards: Gender and Sexual Anxieties of Iranian Modernity. University of California Press. p. 32.)
Homosexual relationships were generally tolerated in pre-modern Islamic societies.
(Everett K. Rowson. (2004). “Homosexuality”. In Richard C. Martin (ed.). Encyclopedia of Islam and the Muslim World. MacMillan Reference USA.)
