The incident occurred on December 3rd, when a Melrose Muslim City Councilor-at-Large Maya Jamaleddine was sitting in her car with her two children. A woman in the car next to her reportedly rolled down her window and alledgedly told Jamaleddine to “go back to your (f**kin’) country.” Jamaleddine wears a hijab, the traditional Muslim headbag, and is the first Muslim to be elected to public office in Melrose.
CAIR Jamaleddine’s husband, who had been putting air in their tires, overheard the remark and asked the woman why she would say such a thing. He filmed the woman’s license plate. Video shows the woman following him back to the family’s car, where the frightened children waited, and then allegedly shoving Jamaleddine’s husband several times so she could film their license plate.
Jamaleddine added, “Please know I’m not the only Muslim who is encountering “racism” (What ‘race’ is Islam?) and (so-called) “Islamophobia,” but I chose to speak up while others are still suffering in silence.” (The woman was right. If you don’t like it here, then go back to your f**kin’ Muslim country)
