NETHERLANDS: What you see here is a champion dressage horse with her amazing foal, not more than a few months old. Watch how the baby is able to keep up with his mother as she demonstrates some of the moves that are part of advanced dressage competitions.
I know about dressage only through Christopher Reeve’s tragic accident. This is a great video. The mother is so graceful and seems to enjoy doing this. She “dances” at times. Her foal is adorable. Thanks for posting these beautiful creatures in action.
Yes, that was very tragic. He was doing combined training competition aka 3-day eventing which is really grueling. The first day is dressage. The second day is cross country where they jump many different kinds of obstacles like ditches, walls, drop jumps into water, and a lot of scary stuff over a course that is a few miles long. The 3rd day is showjumping in a stadium. Reeve’s horse fell on him over a cross country jump and broke his neck, leaving him a quadriplegic.
I’ve never seen a mare and her young foal doing something like in this video.
Thank you, Bonni. I was amazed how the foal stayed with his mom, but also seemed to move in front of her without getting trampled. I always wanted to be around horses, but the closest I ever got was working with dogs.
It is the first time I see something like this. The foal is so cute. And the mom is drop dead gorgeous. What class they both have! Much more class than the average individual.
And we can see the foal already has the rhythm, its head held high, just beautiful. Thank you for that, BNI.
You wrote that they normally cannot be trained that young. So, this little marvel is destined for great things in life, and so will be his fans. Thank you, again. Loved it.
WOW! I wasn’t sure if any of my readers had even heard of dressage, let only competed in it. I’ve only done show jumpers but I love watching dressage. A long time ago, my trainer brought in an upper level dressage horse and I got to ride him once. It was an amazing feeling.

It’s never too late. I used to give lessons to a beginner rider who was 70 years old. And she loved it.
Not a horse person, but I’ve always admired them. (bit scared of them) But I agree–this is indeed beautiful. What a cutie!
Absolutely gorgeous. Smart little foal picking up everything and flying along next to his mama.
And what makes this so amazing is that you can’t train a horse that young to do that.
He’s a little winner, and a beauty, at that! Nice post.
Great to see you here again, Pink, hope you and your family had a great Christmas.

It was a joy for me to watch, too.

Sure is. Like mama, like son.
Very proud Mom!
How very precious and proud!!! I miss living and working with horses … it has been since the 1970s that I competed with Dressage. Thanks for sharing.
