This is what happens when you try to accommodate Muslim “halal” food demands in public schools

Little by little, Islam-certified halal food not only is being offered as an alternative lunch meal in France, at some schools, there is ONLY halal food, so Christians and other non-Muslim students have no other choice. And while halal-proponents try to claim that this ‘no-pork’ meat policy is good for Jews who keep kosher, in fact, the process for kosher slaughter has many requirements that halal slaughter does not. Accordingly, any Jew who keeps kosher will not eat halal meat.

Fdesouche  (via Medforth) At Collège Émile Combes in Bordeaux, a halal beef sauté was offered on the canteen menu on Monday. A religious component that is causing great concern among some of the students’ parents. The movement Parents vigilants de la Gironde, founded by Reconquête! in 2022, warns against the politicization of children on the menu.

Cheese rolls, halal beef skillet, cauliflower, cheese and fruit. On the website Pronote, Collège Émile Combes in Bordeaux does not display an alternative to the main dish served in the canteen on Monday. “What is shocking is that the principle of secularism is being trampled on and that this is being accepted,” outraged Virginie Tournay, spokesperson for Parents vigilants in the Gironde region.

Parents are rightfully angered by move to ban pork sausages and bacon and replace them with Islamic barbarically-slaughtered meat in schools. While schools are going to extraordinary lengths to protect the interests of Muslim pupils, there is no such support for others who may not want to eat halal for various reasons.

The movement, launched by Reconquête! in September 2022, was alerted by the father of one of the middle school students, who was as concerned as he was outraged. “It’s disturbing because we are giving in to a community pressure that is targeting our children because they are malleable. They are taught a polarised way of living and seeing society, whereas the Collège should be precisely a bulwark against the problems of adults,” Virginie Tournay pointed out. […]

The Département de Gironde rejects this accusation. The choice of menus is at the discretion of the schools, which are also “allowed to offer halal meat without having to notify parents of this”.

You can expect the same thing to happen here in American schools as more and more Muslims demand “halal” alternatives in school lunches for their children.

Eleven more NYC public schools certified to serve halal meals: Department of Education: More Muslim students in New York City will have access to halal meals now that 11 additional public schools have been certified to serve food meeting the faith’s dietary standards, Schools Chancellor Meisha Ross Porter announced Monday. 

The certification was made possible under a DOE pilot program launched two years ago bringing halal food in 32 schools across the five boroughs. Now, a total of 43 schools across the city offer halal meals, with the most recent additions serving students in Harlem, Jamaica and Jackson Heights in Queens, and Soundview, Bronx.
