Under a new policy initiative of Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, armed Israeli civilians who thwart terrors attacks will no longer have their weapons confiscated or be interrogated under caution.
worldisraelnews.com Hebrew-language media reported on Saturday that the minister had agreed with police on the new measures, meant to encourage civilians to arm themselves. Until now, a civilian who fires at a terrorist generally has their weapon confiscated as part of the ensuing investigation. They are also often summoned for questioning, sometimes under caution of potential criminal acts.
The new policy will only apply to terror attacks in which the shooter acts in self-defense, only harms the perpetrator and stops firing the moment the danger has subsided. In the event, police will examine the firearm at the scene and then return it to the owner.
Last week, Ben-Gvir hailed the civilian who shot and killed the Palestinian terrorist who wounded seven in Tel Aviv.
“I congratulate the brave citizen who neutralized the terrorist, prevented the continuation of the incident and saved lives. This once again proves the importance and effectiveness of citizens carrying weapons,” said Ben-Gvir. “I call on those in the public who meet the requirements: Carry firearms with you,” he added.
Earlier this year, Ben-Gvir reiterated his call to make it easier for civilians to obtain a license to carry firearms, describing it as one of his “overarching goals.”
The minister said he sees no reason why Israel Defense Forces combat veterans, for example, should not be allowed to carry weapons. Currently, he noted, many soldiers “absurdly” do not meet the criteria for obtaining a license. “In the recent [terror] attacks, we saw how critical the response of citizens carrying weapons is,” he said. “This is a critical and life-saving security issue.”

Bobby, I have to admit that I’ve seen more French cops shooting and killing Muslim terrorists than I have seen British cops doing the same.
After all, at least half of British cops carry nothing more than a nightstick.
Those that are given permits to carry firearms in Israel who have not been in the Army (or have been in the military without significant firearms training–yes that does happen) should be given instruction and at least 10 hours range time by the government. Also, Israel should not restrict ammo sales to permitted individuals, and a military advisor should recommend various calibers and brands of firearms and ammo type on a “suggested” list for men, women, young, and elderly.
Lately, it’s been private armed citizens that have stopped the Pali terrorists. If trusted people who are good shots are ubiquitous, then the Palis would have a much harder time terrorizing the Israeli population.
Civilians ARE required to get several hours of firearm training:
Israeli law allows citizens to carry weapons under certain conditions, such as requiring one for work or living in an area of the country that faces heightened security risks. They must present documented proof of their workplace or location to get a license, and renew it once every three years. The process involves submitting a health declaration signed by a physician, as well as completion of the required firearm safety and shooting training, including theoretical exam and practical shooting requirements, and demonstrating adequate gun knowledge and control as per the Firearm Training Ordinance of 2018.
Following a deadly terror attack in Jerusalem last month, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that his government will loosen restrictions on private gun ownership in Israel and expand the licensing of weapons for thousands of civilians. Netanyahu mentioned examples in which armed citizens or off-duty soldiers used their weapons to stop terrorists and save lives.

Oh yeah that is one good law and it will also help the people defend their own from the vermin. My opinion is that the Gov. give free ammo and a free week for every one that saves lives. Good law.
