Excellent points were raised in this discussion. On the issue of Jews not connecting the proverbial dots between the Democrat party and its policies (including economic and social/racial policies — not just with regard to foreign policies), I believe the allegiance to the Democrats has a lot to do with six very important factors:
1) The need to be accepted by a social group that one is surrounded by — especially at university;
2) The fear of breaking past tradition with the voting habits of family members;
3) The realization that all these years of affiliation and loyalty to the Democrat party were not only a waste but were wrong headed in the first place;
4) The realization that abandoning the Democrat party means forming alliances with groups one has previously eschewed;
5) It means using critical thinking to explore many other areas of belief that one has taken for granted but which now must be reassessed.
6) It means facing the reality that those people who you thought were your friends and allies actually don’t like you at all, consider your Jewishness to be a problem and would easily sacrifice your very existence.
I believe all of these things go into the reason why there is a disconnect between the voting habits and the political reality in the world today. The point that was made about being taught in America that anti-Semitism mostly comes from the right is an excellent and important one. This idea has got to change and the truth must be taught.
