the Labour party that you think you know, has not been a party of the left since the 1970’s. When in power the UK was crippled by strikes, rampant inflation and high interest rates and a government run by the trade unions. The ordinary people were sick of it, that is why Thatcher stormed to power in 1979, even past Labour voters went to her because they were sick of strikes. The Conservatives then run it from ’79 until ’97 when along came Blair and his university mates. He knew Labour of old would not get back in as the ’85 miners strike and union power reminded us of what had happened the last time they run the country. So Blair remodelled them into New Labour and disassociated the party from it’s lefty roots, the public liked it and they won three elections in a row. However complacency and stagnation set in just as it did with the Conservatives before them, Blair could see they would not win again and jumped ship. Labour never had a true left leader then until Jeremy Corbyn in 2015, and he promoted all his lefty friends to the top jobs in the party. He never supported Hamas as such but all his juniors did and the UK people could see the 70’s all over again if he got in. Boris Johnson beat Corbyn in 2019 by the biggest margin for over 100 years, the people rejected the left again and Corbyn was voted out as leader. The Labour Party of today is pretty much the same as the Conservatives of yesterday and that is very close to the centre ground, the electorate will never touch a party of the left again. Finally there seems to be a third option on the horizon with the new Reform UK party but time will tell. Hope this helps from a UK nutter.
Thanks for the explanation. I must say, I was not impressed by many of the policies of the Conservatives in the past several years. They actually deserved to lose. But Corbyn would have been a big disaster. He is a big supporter of all things Islam.
