You can probably blame Iranian STUDENTS for that. Students like to protest. From the Vietnam war right up to the current Gaza situation. Students are activists, like it or not.
In 1953, the US CIA got rid of Dr. Muhammad Mossadegh, a DEMOCRATICALLY ELECTED leader, only to replace him with the Shaw of Iran. The Shaw acted more dictatorial than the previous Iranian regime and the people got sick of him. It resulted in STUDENTS besieging the US embassy in Tehran for 444 days. Not the government, but pissed off students.
The Canadian embassy HID and harbored, at their own peril about 13 US diplomatic staff, and snuck them out of Iran. That’s what friends do. Trump forgets that when trying to smash Canada.
But all the extraneous political shit aside. Iran used to have women with Western clothing, haircuts and even knee-high skirts back in the 70s. They tried being western and progressive. Google the pics.
