JPost 23 years ago, Daniel Pearl, an American-Israeli journalist, was kidnapped. Nine days later, he was brutally murdered by Islamic terrorists for being Jewish while pursuing a story in Pakistan. Daniel Pearl’s last words were: “I am Jewish.”
The Indian government announced on Thursday that its military had killed an Islamic terrorist who was involved in the murder of Jewish-American journalist Daniel Pearl. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), India’s governing party, said that the Indian army killed Pakistani terrorist Abdul Rauf Azhar in “Operation Sindhoor.”
A group of Islamic terrorists, including Azhar, kidnapped and murdered Pearl in 2002. The terrorist was affiliated with al-Qaeda and Jaish-e-Mohammed, an Islamist terror group that aims to separate Kashmir from India and fully incorporate it into Pakistan.
Pearl was working as the South Asia bureau chief of The Wall Street Journal and was originally stationed in New Delhi. He moved to Karachi, Pakistan, to investigate terror after the September 11, 2001, attacks in New York City.
On January 23, 2002, Pearl was abducted by Islamic terrorists at a hotel in Karachi. His abductors, who called themselves the National Movement for the Restoration of Pakistani Sovereignty, accused him of being an Israeli spy and sent the US a list of demands if they wanted Pearl freed.
The US government failed to meet the demands and Pearl was subsequently beheaded by terrorists, who filmed the execution which was seen by millions across the globe.

Killing a journalist is the lowest of the low. Gonzalo Lira suffered the same fate at the hands of the Ukrainian regime. I believe battlefield medics and war correspondents should be immune from such atrocities.

Daniel Pearl was trying to do his job as a journalist. He was actively reporting on the presence of terror groups in Pakistan. Without his fact-finding inputs gathered in 2001, we would have never learned about the existence of a Jaish-e-Mohamed terror camp in Bahawalpur, Punjab province. It’s a small discreet town outside the radar of foreign intelligence agencies. They were protected by mosques and street stalls to give the appearance of a normal Pakistani town. Inside that camp, they were grooming terrorists by the hundreds every year, teaching them the art of fidayeen warfare. Thousands of Moslames have “graduated’ from that academy. Without Pearl, we may not have learned about its existence. It’s only after so many decades that India’s missile attacks destroyed that terror camp, taking down the lead terrorists.
It takes a serious amount of guts to travel to a conflict zone immediately after 9/11.
Nowadays, most reporters don’t have that kind of daredevilry.
Pearl’s chances of survival were very less to begin with given his Jewish background.
Getting kidnapped In Pakistan is a certainty. It was a matter of time before Pearl would get captured by the Al Qaeda.
He was very brave to carry on doing his job despite such an absolute risk.

Let me add that this Pakistani Muslim terrorist, Abdul Rauf Azhar, was also responsible for securing the release of his fellow Pakistani Muslim terrorist, Ahmed Omar Saeed Sheikh, who went on to coordinate the 9/11 attacks.
Omar was serving life in a dungeon hole in India, and would have become fertilizer there. But, thanks to a twist of fate, a hijacking mission planned by Abdul Rauf Azhar in 1999, Indian government was forced to compromise, and hand over Omar back to his handlers.
Later, Omar used his newfound freedom in Pakistan to become an even bigger Jihadi. He became a mastermind of the 9/11 attacks. He was the mule who wired money from Dubai tor funding those 19 hijackers.
Basically, Omar was a high value Muslim Jihadi mastermind, and Abdul Rauf Azhar, did many other things since then – killing Daniel Pearl, planning the attack on the Indian parliament, and God knows what else.
To be fair, Rauf Azhar has been a bit rusty, of late. But a good Jihadi never loses his muscle memory. Now we no longer have to worry about this lowlife terrorist Paki bastard anymore.
Rauf’s brother, Maulana Masood Azhar is still alive. But the Israeli Harpy missile took care of Masood’s whole family including his sister, her husband, and 5-6 baby Jihadis who they were mentoring.
This was one hell of a satisfying terrorist eradication mission. We can compare it to the Navy SEALS operation that took care of Osama Bin Laden.

I doubt, if today’s reader of the beheading headlines would be as shocked, or have as much empathy for the victim as there was 23 years ago. This is evident from observing peoples reaction on the anniversary of the 9/11 twin towers attack. Not since the late 1940s National Geographic pictures of New Guinea tribal displays of shrunken enemy heads, has there been such a barbaric public display of atrocities.
