Zoroastrianism was founded by Zarathushtra in the 6th century BCE. No one knows for certain what religion was practiced in Persia before then.
The Persian Empire seemed to be enlightened, it allowed the Greeks under their rule as well as the Jews to continue to practice their religions. Cyrus even allowed any and all Jews who desired so to return to Yerushalem. He wasn’t called Cyrus the Great for nothing. It does seem like the Jews of Alexander the Great’s time celebrated their liberation from Persian rule though.

Today’s Zoroasters are primarily a trading community. The Sassanid empire isn’t coming back, although they continue to name their children Cyrus or Darius.
They’re filthy rich but use their money judiciously to support charity hospitals, schools, and create loads of steady jobs all over India, and not just for tax benefits but because they’re genuinely committed to helping others and the nation/environment they’re living in.

Here’s the deal. The Christian (those that believe the Bible, Tanakh and New Testament alike are the holy inspired Word of God) belief is that God chose Abraham and his descendants as His chosen people, we are taught that we pray to the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. If you read within the Tanakh with special emphasis given to the Tora (Pentateuch), you will find many references that God chose a people, that were few, to be holy and guide the nations to his loving embrace. Moreover, in the New Testament we are taught the Christ was in the beginning, “In the beginning was the Word ….” And, although he came to save the fallen people of Israel, his mercy spread to the nations “even a dog eats the scraps that fall from its master’s table.”
