The Israeli restaurant Gila and Nancy in Berlin-Mitte was supposed to have its grand opening on Wednesday evening – but it never happened. A loud protest, organized by the group Shoresh – Palestinian Jewish Alliance Berlin, prevented the planned opening.
At the center of the criticism is operator Shahar Segal, a former spokesperson for the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF). Activists accuse him of complicity in covering up alleged war crimes. The restaurant is also accused of so-called Israeli “pinkwashing” – that is, using an LGBT-friendly image to conceal political responsibility.
