This exact same situation happened in Louis Malle’s Nazi occupied France as portrayed in his biographical movie: Au revoir les enfants, which documented his childhood at a private, upscale, Catholic school in France during the Nazi occupation. The head priest who ran the school Louis Malle was attending (i.e. as a child) had provided safe haven for some French Jewish school children, but a member of the school’s staff informed on him (i.e. the Catholic priest headmaster, who took full and complete responsibility for trying to save these Jewish kids) and all the French Jewish schoolchildren were rounded up by the Gestapo, along with the Catholic priest headmaster, never to be seen alive again. The incident similar to this one in Vienna was on an occasion when Louis Malle’s mother took him and his brother out to eat at an exclusive restaurant in Paris and a Jewish man was hounded out of the establishment for the mere fact of his being Jewish.

Multiple crimes, many hideous, over the past decades, were those targeting Jews, such as desecration of cemeteries and daytime attacks against Jews in predominately Jewish communities. Most of these were not in Manhattan, but in other boroughs.
