He received a harsher sentence than I did for the exact same charge under the same legal jurisdiction. My debt to society was paid by six once a month five minute visits to my probation officer who I would bullshit saying I was being of good behaviour, keeping the peace and refraining from drugs and alcohol. That’s not much of a sentence for threatening to kill someone. Especially when my victim still fears me twenty years later.
Uttering threats in Canadian law is a form of assault but isn’t punished very seriously as my own example shows. I think the minimum sentence should be 30 days in the county bucket.

A neighbor who chastised me for driving over the limit in a residential area where lots of children are outside playing. I’m older and wiser now and not nearly as mouthy.
I just got a $50 ticket for going 30mph in a 25mph zone.

What is notable is that the witness (a car salesman who worked at the dealership that was servicing the perp’s car) is a muslim. The perp got 60 days house arrest. Whoop de doo.
