This I first learned in a cinematic viewing of Uncle Tom’s Cabin among a mostly Moslame audience many years ago. The irony of the movie criticizing and satirizing the peculiar institution of slavery in America totally escaped the audience. They just didn’t “get” it. The Moslames in my group thought it was perfectly normal and fine that blacks were traded like cattle in America at some point. They thought it was the natural order of things. Many Moslames couldn’t understand why blacks were freed in the first place by Lincoln, and why did so many white men due in the Union cause to bring about abolitionism.
It’s preprogrammed into their brains and they’re acutely unaware of this sad episode of American history in the Deep South.
Agree with all this, though blacks owned slaves as well.
