Very few carry a .38 S&W (came out in 1898) in today’s world. Those that are a bit recoil sensitive and don’t like the snap of a .357 magnum typically carry a .38 Special. FAR more power than the old .38 Smith and Wesson. Even with +P loads, recoil is manageable and muzzle lift is controllable for most smaller people.
