And don’t forget the US Marines were formed to fight Barbary pirates, and ensure safe trading routes to and from Europe!
For anyone who doesn’t know, the Barbary pirates were all Muslim…and the main reason the Marines came into being.
It only took one small platoon to defeat them and have the vizier of Tripoli surrender his sword to the lieutenant that was the commander of the force.
That is why, to this very day, the USMC Officer’s Sword is a Mameluke, based on the pattern of that surrendered sword.
Alley-hoo-ackburrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
The NYC Republican candidate for mayor used to call people he didn’t like “Mamelukes” all the time. Mr BNI told me what it meant a long time ago.
United States Marine Corps begins with the founding of the Continental Marines on 10 November 1775 to conduct ship-to-ship fighting, provide shipboard security and discipline enforcement, and assist in landing forces. Its mission evolved with changing military doctrine and foreign policy of the United States.
You mean the savage Barbary Muslim pirates?
That’s why, in full formal dress, an officer wears/carries a Mameluke. A loose copy Prince Hamet Karamanli’s sword.
Y’know halls, shores, and all of that stuff.
Love the Marine full dress blues
It’s been great to know you and to do my small part as one of you in one of best and worst times to own the title Marine , Semper Fi !
