I had my very first Bagel when I moved to New York City in 1983 from the UK and had no idea who made them or why but I loved them 100%, baked and steamed and still love them today, Cream Cheese, a smear, and I learned that the hole was there to carry them around but I didn’t know the rest of the story, as Paul Harvey used to say..
I think Jews have been treated so badly due to resentment and jealously as they appear to be a people that survive against ALL odds.
Back in ancient times it was thought to be Low Class in dealing with money and so the only job Jewish men could get was in fact dealing with money and lo and behold they became good at it and now people denigrate them for being successful at doing that… Go figure.
I lived in Israel 1978, and a few really good friends who were Jewish, Londoner and American, NY and CA, plus my ex wife is second generation Russian Jewish from Southern California and she now lives in Berkley and supports Bernie, AOC, thinks Obummer was THE best POTUS EVER and she wants Elizabeth Warren to be the first female President… She married what looks like a tall Soy Boy and I just hope she is safe being ”visibly” Jewish in Berkeley today as I see so much anti Jewish shit going down on that Campus not far from her House.
Andrew, Jews have faced persecution at times during their entire history, but they carry on and thrive despite it. On the other hand,
I have no use for Leftist Jews (the Hamas sympathizers and Israel-bashers), especially the ones in this country. They are JINOS, and bad ones, at that. In fact, I find a lot of these Far Left Jews worse than Muslims.
BTW, I love Paul Harvey and used to listen to him all the time, when he did his “rest of the story” segments on a NYC radio station on a regular basis.
Call me uninformed but I still don’t understand why Jews were/are facing anti-semitism in Europe.
Sure some of the ancient Jewish elders may have “libelled” Jesus, I still don’t see it as an excuse to damn an entire race of people for posterity.
But again I’m not a Christian either. Hindus preach not only tolerance but empathy.
Jews have been living in India for more than 2500 years (including the ten lost tribes), before most emigrated to Israel after 1948. There has been absolutely no concept of anti-semitism here.
No one understands Jewish customs here. However they do keep their Kosher laws and everything freely. I only learned about Bar Mitzvah, Hannukah and bagels when I first visited Louisiana for my postgrad. No one here views the Jewish people as strange or mysterious.
US Jews felt like any other white Americans to me. But yes, they did seem a bit distinct by culture.
I have interacted recently with a few Europeans from Romania, Poland, Switzerland. Their hatred of the Jews felt very visceral. It just seems blind and irrational.
With Moslames I get it. But with the Euros, I have no idea why they’re filled with so much hate against a most wonderful people.
And Israel is one of our closest allies today. I’ve met IDF soldiers off duty who often come to vacation here. They’re amazing blokes and gals.
The Euros seem to be infected with some kind of brain virus that triggers their anti-semitism.😁😁😁
Anti-Semitism is has been around for thousands of years. Not exactly sure why, but some think it’s because Jews tend to be successful in any society in which they reside. The Holocaust put a decades long pause on the most virulent anti-Semitism, but it never went away. For some reason, the rebirth of the Jewish state created a new wave of antisemitism, but I would have thought all the Jew haters in Europe would have been happy to get them out of Europe. And I would have thought the Arabs would be happy too, considering the vast majority of Jews who were living in Arab nations, were either kicked out of all the Arab states or left for Israel voluntarily.
I blame mass Muslim immigration the West for the current high levels of anti-Semitism. Israel is a. tiny state, surrounded by large and prosperous Muslim countries surrounginn them. The majority of Israeli-Arabs love their lives and have all the rights and job opportunities that Israelis have there. The ARabs who decided to call themselves Palestinians became a problem for everyone, and because of that, hardly any Arab countries will accept them as immigrants because they know they bring nothing but trouble with them.
In the West, the arrival of millions of Muslim immigrants has made it acceptable once again to hate Jews…and the Leftists in the West were happy to be allies with them. It is starting to feel like what Nazi Germany must have felt like for Jews in the 1930’s.
If I wanted to, I could fill this blog everyday with examples of the growing Jew hatred, especially in universities, which I understand was where the anti-Jew propaganda originated in Germany.
A lot of it still doesn’t make sense to me because I can’t think like the Euros, putting myself in their shoes. Yes, I’ve read “The Merchant of Venice” and some other medievall literature that documents all that anti-semitism. It just feels super irrational to me for anyone to think in that hateful manner about any group.
I do hate the Pakistanis but that’s because we’re at constant war with them. That’s a different matter.
With Moslames, they don’t have much of a mind. They will hate just about anyone who does not grovel before their Prophet.
In this country, East Asians seem to be following the Jews. Colleges are trying to limit the number of East Asian students they admit, because there are so many of them that qualify. I guess you could call it a kind of racism, but I see it more as jealousy over their achievements. Kind of like the quotas they placed on admitting Jewish students in the mid 20th Century.
On the other hand, people here seem to see Muslims as victims, rather than the rapists, criminals, and terrorists that more than a few of them are. Go figure.
I don’t hold the fact that Hindus are torturing, raping, and murdering Christians in India against Indians. The fact that Hindus have political parties that advertise setting dates for invading Christian villages and areas.
There will always be religious extremists from every/any religion.
As far as the West goes … it isn’t “anti-semitism”. It’s Jewphobia and many Jewaphobics.
The matter is that Jews did NOT kill Christ. It was the same romans that founded the idol worshiping church of rome that crucified Christ.
Many in Europe and North America are simply silly little Jewaphobics. They ain’t known to be the sharpest machetes in the shed.
“I don’t hold the fact that Hindus are torturing, raping, and murdering Christians in India against Indians. The fact that Hindus have political parties that advertise setting dates for invading Christian villages and areas.”
Try being a Christian in Pakistan.
Joseph Francis Pereira, Brenden Valentine Crasto and Joseph Shane Crasto are just a few examples of Christians that fled Pakistan to start a new life in India, gaining Indian citizenship, and are comfy and safe here.
India allows Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains, Zoroasters, Atheists, Agnostics, Jews and Christians from Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan to automatically apply for asylum here. No questions asked.
“I don’t hold the fact that Hindus are torturing, raping, and murdering Christians in India against Indians. The fact that Hindus have political parties that advertise setting dates for invading Christian villages and areas.” Now talk about Sikhs, Hindus and Jews living (or trying to live) in Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan.
Moshe worked in a Jewish bakery, his neighbour John was a Christian, he told Moshe that he has never been to a Jewish bakery, could he have a look round?
So they agreed to meet up & go down together.
When Moshe opened the doors, John saw an ex weight-lifter with huge muscles, stripped to the waist, he was rolling dough on his chest.
John said what was he making ? Moshe said Burger Buns, but you should see how he makes the Bagels !!!!
For example, Michael Moore can hang a dozen of each around his neck, which allows him to stay on the couch with hands available for posting TDS diatribes on the internet in between bites.

Alley-hoo-ackburrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
I like “Jewaphobic.” Much better than anti-Semite.

Of course, you won’t.

LOL!
Glad that you enjoyed that old joke.
That was told to me as a trainee baker over 60 years ago.
I did qualify in the end as a ” Master-Baker”
Master Baker? LOL
True, I have certificates to prove it !!
Very interesting. I always have bagels at my house.
Still useful today, including for donuts.
For example, Michael Moore can hang a dozen of each around his neck, which allows him to stay on the couch with hands available for posting TDS diatribes on the internet in between bites.
🤣
Awesome ! So sick of the Antisemitism !
