Bonni, as I said before, coming from a home in which Yiddish was spoken all the time, being raised in Boro Park Brooklyn, orthodox Jewish, Shegutz can be both and shiksa is more frequently used for a female.

Having grown up in a house that spoke Yiddish frequently, regardless of the so called dictionary explanation, ashegutz is anyone who isn’t Jewish. Not sure what context you are referring to on BNI site, but shegutz became a negative perjorative.
My parents spoke Yiddish when they wanted to say something they didn’t want me to understand. But eventually, I started to understand what they were saying, at least the gist of it.
Likewise, but my parents not only used it to keep secrets from us, but it was used as a second language as well as Hebrew. After a few years, we understood everything.
My mother spoke it fluently but my father not so much and used a lot of English with the Yiddish. That’s probably how I got to understand it at all.
I remember you telling us this many, many years ago. The best part of Yiddish are the funny curses that often times loses it in translation

Yes Kufar, Yiddish and German are very similar. I’m able to understand German if it’s spoken slowly. German is harsher than Yiddish. Friends of ours who speak Germanfluently, are able to comprehend a lot of what I say in Yiddish
Weird. There must have been a lot of German Jews for that to have happened. My grandfather, who was Czech, could speak/read a smattering of German/Russian/Polish.
