As Robert Spencer of Jihad Watch writes today in a post entitled “The Great Betrayal,” Trump’s promise of help (to the people of Iran) has so far proven hollow. His encouragement of the protesters only ended up getting 20,000 of them killed.

Even worse, there are reports that Trump called off an attack at the last minute at the behest of Turkey, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia, three Sunni states that have long counted the Shi’ite Islamic Republic of Iran as an enemy, but whose solicitude for the well-being of the United States should not be taken for granted.
On Thursday, Reza Amiri Moghadam, the Islamic Republic of Iran’s ambassador to Pakistan, said that Trump had told the Iranian government that the United States would not attack Iran.
If that proves to be true, and no attack comes, Trump’s promise of help to the protesters, and his exhortation to them to take to the streets, will stand as one of the most craven betrayals in world history. It will also have consequences far beyond the continuing existence of the malignant regime in Tehran. If no attack comes, Trump will have finally handed his opponents a weapon they can use to do him in.
Retired General Jack Keane begs to differ:
Looks like Robert Spencer is doubling down on his condemnation of Trump:

Who cares what Robert Spencer thinks. I was banned for commenting on his portal and I find jihad watch not a credible source of news anymore. I am sure I’m not the only one he has banned
I’ve heard that from several people. Why did he ban you? I know calling for violence on JW is a sure way to get you banned. BNI got taken down by a former web host for violent comments by my readers. I don’t usually ban people for expressing these feelings, but will edit their comment when I think its necessary because of my past problems.
Who gets banned from Jihadwatch probably has little to do with Robert Spencer or Hugh Fitzgerald or Daniel Greenfield. He has moderators who handle his comments section.
Strategy vs. knee jerk response. Something the instant gratification-entitlement-useful idiot wankers can’t process because puppets don’t control themselves. One thing we have learned about Trump. He is a strategist.
And well understands the value of the element of surprise.
This somewhat reminds me of the Bay of Pigs fiasco. I’m surprised Sunni states would intervene on behalf of the defender of Shiite Islam. I’d think they would be neutral at best WRT a strike on Iran, but maybe they’re worried they might be next?
Patience. Some very bad people are about to learn the truth about “Allah”
He also abandoned Israel AND thevUS when he left these Islamic thugs roam our streets and universities. He has not done enough and he seems too busy kissing Qatar and Islams ass. And he also should be paying more attention to Mondami!
After all of these things, I’ve stopped trusting him. He seems to prefer his “buddies” and his Qatar deals. It’s sickening.
The general is spot on! Trump has to hit them in a grand scale organized strike, and I believe that the delay is to safeguard US interests and Israel from retaliatory Iranian strikes before we start. Also, we may need intelligence on exactly where the Ayatollah is. I also believe that the U.S. has to tell Israel to stay out of this skirmish, just as we did during the Iraq war, when Sadam was raining scud missiles down on Israel. Finally, there is the usual inter-service bickering between the AF and the Navy as to who will have a lead role.
I thought that Robert Spencer was more sophisticated than to believe that the U.S. abandoned the Iranian people. When the bombings start, they will be coordinated and widespread across Iranian strategic sites, and they will be devastating to the regime. I also foresee Iranian missiles launched en mass against US bases and against Israel, in an attempt to overwhelm defensive capabilities. And a few will get through. But, all major assets such as expensive aircraft will be away, and US military personnel will be in shelters.
Taffy, I was surprised to hear that from him too. But an Iranian friend of mine shares his concern, as well.
Robert Spencer is a true scholar. But, i differ with his opinion because I cannot imagine Trump leaving the Ayatollah in power and screwing the Iranian people when he said that he would help. A few well placed bombs and cruise missiles would seal the Ayatollah’s fate and ensure a regime change. We would never have to worry about Iranian led world unrest again!
I believe that’s coming.
Praying for the Persian people ! Freedom !
