Most “Indian” restaurants in United Kaliphate (UK) are owned by Bangladesh or Pakistan Muslims. I wouldn’t set foot in Britain’s famous curryhouses if the meal were free.
In fact whenever I’m overseas I prefer THAI food to satisfy my spicy cravings as it matches the flavour profile of Indian spicy. Moo Krob (Thai Crispy Pork Belly) is guaranteed to be non-halal as it uses pig meat.
Of late, I’m finding Korean spicy food very palatable as it’s guaranteed to have no halal meat.

When we maintained offices on Saipan, the capital island of the CNMI, I was in and out of Korea on a frequent basis. In 1998, I took on an assignment that had me living in Samsungdong, in Seoul, Korea until New Year’s Eve of 2000. Korean food is delicious but not really “hot” spicy. Rich spice flavors, but not that hot.
Now, true and authentic Thai food is hot, so hot that it’s difficult to taste the spices. Delicious but HOT.
Thai women outdo men in their capacity for hot food. I friend of mine opened a store, on Saipan, for his wife. It was called the “Thai Food Store”. How’s that for a creative name? It became somewhat of a social center for local Thai women. They would frequently have contests, informal as they were, where the women would see who could eat and slowly chew the hottest raw peppers.

I don’t know much about Thai women as I never had a “One night in Bangkok”. I just saw many that were quite attractive and even more that were as butt-ugly as a woman can get. Bob’s wife, Wari was on the attractive side. The sing-song voice was difficult to tolerate.
That’s ALL that I know of Thai women other than their ability to slowly chew hot peppers.
Bangkok is called “Suvarnabhumi” or Golden land.

Lived in Japan. Lived in the Republic of Korea, even had a four month assignment in Shenjen PRC, even had a gig that kept me in Myanmar for around a month. However, not once did I ever visit Thailand. I had a friend that had a tourist related business in Cambodia. I really wanted to visit Cambodia and see all of the statues, temples, ‘n such. But, I never even made it and I was offered free accommodations, food, and beverage (in those days, I drank enough to float a battleship). Sadly, I never found the time.
So, I know absolutely nothing about Thailand. Zero, nada, zip, (or in the Chamorro “Taja”).
If you’ve lived in Japan, you will find many similarities with Thailand. Cambodia is a very different culture although Thai script borrows from Khmer. Recently they were fighting a border war over an ancient temple.
The Thai culture of “Nam Jai” (meaning,: water from the heart) shares deep philosophical similarities with the Japanese concept of “Omotenashi” (sincerity and integrity).
In both countries, you feel service staff fulfilling your needs without you stating them. It’s extraordinary and magical.
I have to say that both these nationalities are a better people than us currymunchers.
