Japanese supporters call it protection of tradition. Critics call it discrimination.
While Japan is becoming more culturally diverse, the culture is still largely hegemonic and slow to change. As a result, the culture places great emphasis on harmony, and views people/groups who may potentially disrupt that harmony with suspicion.
Japan has a long and troubled history with organized exclusivist religions trying to take over and destroy Japan’s existing religions (Buddhism & Shintoism), and disrupting the social order.
With Islam in particular, there are a lot of issues and controversies surrounding the faith. The media’s portrayal of the religion further adds to negative perceptions. There have also been cases of Muslim extremists in Japan destroying historical/religious sites. Furthermore, Islam is an organized, exclusivist religion. All of these factors combined cause problems.
A lot of protests are over the fact that Muslims can’t bury people in Japan, proclaiming that the Japanese government is discriminating against them. This couldn’t be further from the truth given that due to Japan’s geography, large scale cemeteries can’t be built. Protests and arrogant demands such as these further fuel Japan’s negative perceptions of Islam.
Keep Islam isolated in the desert. Let them kill each other.

All these attempts to control the moslame vermin can be undone as more f’ing moslame vermin immigrate to JP.
