Last November, a record 42 Muslim Americans swept into public office—an unprecedented shift. Leading the pack: Zohran Mamdani, becoming New York City’s America-hating/Israel-hating/Capitalism-hating Muslim mayor. His win sent shockwaves through the political establishment. With mid-term elections just months away, analysts foresee a ‘Mamdani effect’—and its dangerous influence, the result of a decades-long strategy of Muslim lobbying and candidate training first implemented in late 2000.

“What is happening now in New York, New Jersey, and indeed, in Michigan, and across the country, is we’re seeing the fruits of those efforts, decades of development by Islamist radicals into building the infrastructure that is now allowing dangerous radicals to run for office,” Westrop said.
Eight years ago, Muslim American voters made history by propelling Rashida Tlaib of Michigan and Ilhan Omar of Minnesota into Congress as the first Muslim women to serve on Capitol Hill. Today, a new wave is poised for even bigger breakthroughs, especially in deep-blue states, where energized Muslim communities can carry outsized influence in low-turnout primaries.
Behind the headlines, however, a more complicated story is unfolding. While some candidates, like New Jersey’s Adam Hamawy, have impressive public service records, critics say there’s more beneath the surface. Westrop said, “Hamawy has a history of involvement with radical Islamic causes.
Westrop said, “There’s no doubt about his Islamist affiliations. He is heavily and openly backed by some pretty dangerous groups and has a long-standing history of involvement with Islamic extremist organizations in Michigan. So, we should be concerned, deeply concerned about him.”
Daniel Greenfield Now, Hisham ‘Adam’ Hamawy, an Egyptian Muslim who is running for Congress in New Jersey’s 12th congressional district, stretching from Plainfield, less than an hour away from Ground Zero, to the state capital in Trenton, is promising to defund the military, abolish ICE, and dismantle the Department of Homeland Security.
In April, Freedom Center Investigates broke the story that Hisham ‘Adam’ Hamawy had testified for the defense at the Blind Sheikh’s terror trial. Our reporting demonstrated that Hamawy had been part of an entourage driven to a terror-ridden convention for one of the top Islamic terrorist figures who inspired Al Qaeda and ISIS.
Even while running for Congress, Hamawy has still failed to directly condemn his terror sheikh who was such a crucial figure in the Islamic terrorism world that ISIS had urged kidnapping Americans to hold them hostage in exchange for his release.
The scandal has been slowly percolating in New Jersey since the Free Beacon first flagged a 1995 New York Times article labeling Hamawy a “supporter” of the radical cleric.
Other media outlets, the Free Beacon and FOX News, discovered that Hamawy had enjoyed an even closer relationship with the terror leader. Rahman’s other translator, Siddig Ibrahim Siddig Ali, had confessed at the trial that Rahman had directed him to bomb the George Washington Bridge and other landmarks. At the trial, Hamawy however had been brought in to deny a government informant’s claim that the Blind Sheikh had called for terror attacks, but was forced to admit that he had called for Jihad and “conquering the land of the infidels”.
Hamawy has been in the news more recently for his Gaza advocacy, demanding that Israel stop its military campaign against Hamas, and in his recent interview with Hasan Piker, a Turkish social media influencer who praised the USSR and defended Hamas, the candidate accused our military of “war crimes”.
Fox News is reporting that the Muslim Brotherhood and it’s U.S. front group CAIR (Council on American Islamic Relations) are working together to get thousands of Muslims to run for public office in America while funding anti-Israel/pro-Hamas protesters on college campuses.
RAIR Foundation Nihad Awad, the radical founding member and current executive director of the controversial Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), delivered a chilling speech at the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA) conference. CAIR, an organization with well-documented ties to Hamas, has long pushed a dangerous anti-American Islamic agenda under the guise of civil rights. Speaking in front of ISNA, Awad laid out a subversive vision for the future of America. His rhetoric revealed a long-term strategy to entrench Islamic influence in American institutions, politics, and media.
He explicitly urged Muslims in America to view their struggle as a continuation of the Prophet Muhammad’s mission—one that involved tearing down the existing social and political order to establish an Islamic alternative. Awad’s words were clear: Muslims in America must not simply integrate; they must actively work to change the country to reflect Islamic values at every level.
He then laid out the numbers:
- 4,000 mosques nationwide should each establish funds for five annual scholarships in journalism, law, filmmaking, political science, and history.
- If every mosque followed through, by 2029, there would be 4,000 new Muslim attorneys, journalists, filmmakers, political scientists, and historians in the U.S.
- Within 15 years, he projected this number would grow to 50,000 Muslim attorneys, 50,000 journalists, 50,000 filmmakers, and 50,000 political influencers.
- This pipeline would allow Muslims to shape laws, media narratives, education, and historical interpretation.
- Currently, 43 state delegates in the U.S. are Muslim. If they run for Congress, he claimed the number of Muslims in office could grow to 50 in the next six years.
